One robbery after another

Thursday for lunch I went with my wife to eat a local restaurant. We were there no longer than 20 minutes. We go out to the car and everything seemed normal. I disarm the alarm and unlock the doors with the remote. When I pull on the door handle the handle comes right off. As I look at the handle I notice a screwdriver mark that was jammed in the keyhole. I check inside and all they did was steal a set of Versace sunglasses that cost a pretty penny, but if could've been worse.

I take the escalade the same day to the dealer and they tell me that the handles are on backorder from gm and they didn't give any date of when I might even get one. Basically the car could just sit in the garage from a week to months. Being pissed, I email Cadillac customer service and let them know the entire situation.

The next day on Friday, the dealer calls me and tells me that they have a door handle. So on Saturday morning I drop the car off to get if fixed and tell them about a problem that I've had with the steering wheel shaking at around 70mph but only once in a while. I've only had the car for around a month and figured it would be covered by the warranty.

Customer service calls me about the email and when I tell them that I'll have to get an aftermarket alarm system he claims that my warranty will be voided. I get pissed and start going at it with him.

Today the dealer calls and tells me that they fixed the door handle but they can't figure out what is causing the steering wheel shake. They claim that if could be that my two right rims are bent and is causing the problem and want me to drop $3000 to replace two wheels which might not guarantee the problem being fixed. Being robbed twice, you be the judge.

Get your wheels road forced balanced, it's will get them smooth and if you have a bent wheel they will be able to tell you that. Ask at your tire store if they have a Hunter Road Force Balancing machine, if not find someone who has one. They can void your warranty if say your aftermarket alarm shorts out your radio, then your radio would not be covered, of course they could not void your warranty if your engine blew and you had an aftermarket alarm.

Re: One robbery after another

When I got my truck I was told caddilac covers the wheels & tires for 2 yrs. If your wheels were bent a qualified service department should be able to confirm this instead of assume. If the wheels were bent in theory seems like the truck would shake all the time.. Sounds like you need to seek another service department that's qualified.

On another I talked with customer service regarding the factory alarm... No solution.. The issue fell on deaf ears. There was a big post last year on this issue - I think GM dropped the ball on this & should be held aaccountable.. We shouldn't have to spend money on an aftermarket system - to duplicate all the factory remote functions will add up $ quickly if done properly.

If you look at the high theft rate from the 02-06 Escalade with onstar & passkey you would think GM would get it right this time.

Re: One robbery after another

if your steering wheel shakes only above certain speeds it is a simple balancing job....check you rims for curb rash!......it sounds like your dealer want to make your wallet a little lighter! Maybe you should let your wheels get checked at a tire store

Re: One robbery after another

that sucks, you shouldn't have to pay if your vehicle is under warranty. The door handle though is another matter. And I would advise strongly on getting an aftermarket alarm system

Re: One robbery after another

Is there any mod you can do to plug up the keyhole to prevent someone from using a screwdriver to get in? Has anyone installed a dummy lock, or perhaps will one of the rear door handles fit on the front?

I know that remote batteries can die, but I've never ever, ever needed the mechanical key to get into my own vehicles.
