i cant help but think, using an isolator would be best for charging.
I run a optima yellow in parallel in my car to help keep the audio pulsing
power draw from dimming the lights and having some key off reserve time.
i leave it in parallel with a quick connect so i can pull out second battery
to pass NHRA rules for 1/4 mile. |

Using the starter you are asking for trouble. One mishap and it touches the exhaust and you are thru.
Hooking it to the connection on the orginal battery is safe and works very well. Easy to get to and you dont have to get under the truck. Just run the cable along either the front or the back of the engine compartment, tire it up and ride on!!
Tell me what you all think about this? I can do it and make it look factory!! |

These parts should cost you about $116.00, it looks stock and you will should never have another battery issue. I have schematics but you can not really see much, e-mail me at carl@hcvind.com and I will send them to you | I have a 2005 EscaladeESV and would like to add a second battery. Is the physical space proximal to the firewall on the passenger side substantially greater in the '07s and following than previous generation Escalades? My concern is less with wiring specifics and more with obtaining a 'mounting tray' and brackets to secure an Optima Yellow Top.
I've plans for using the deep cycle Yellow Top in isolation from the main battery while using the ESV as a "Motor Home" i.e. parked overnight with separately powered auxilliary internal illumination. Am considering using the following to isolate the secondary battery while the engine is off, thus keeping the main battery untouched: http://www.oznium.com/relay200/tech
Thanks,

This layout (assuming the relay has a 5th pole to as a common between the 2 batteries so the switch over is "car batt to 5th" then "aux batt to 5th", however this design will result in the AUX batt never being charged.
If it was me i would permanently wire the AUX to the system and then relay the car batt to turn it OFF when the ignition is OFF, this way both are used when driving (and means both charging) then only 1 (AUX) is on when not, as the relay would disconnect the main battery.
Many Thanks Quote:

1) If you note the pictures on associated tabs; There are only four posts.
2) If by "5th pole to as a common between the 2 batteries" you mean a common ground, they would share the chassis common ground.
3) If by "5th pole to as a common between the 2 batteries" you mean a common connection between the positive terminals of the 2 batteries, that would be the relay itself. When the small post, to the left in the diagram labeled "This can be any 12 volt power source that is "live" when the engine is running" is supplying power, the relay connects the two large posts, connected respectively to the the positives of the two batteries and the second battery is charged through the positive terminal of battery one through the ground of battery two.
4) At what point would you "permanently wire the AUX to the system"?
Thanks for the speedy response.
Any pre 2007 GMT800 (Tahoe, Denali, Escalade) owners who have physically placed a second battery in the open area proximal to the fire wall on the drivers side?
Thanks,
