Angry Lowering Driver's Seat

Remove this ad
While I'm only 6'-5", I'm having headroom issues in my 2007 Escalade. Even with the seat lowered all the way, my head is still brushing the roof. Yes, I have a sunroof.

Does anyone know if it is possible to drop the seat mounts to get another inch or two of headroom? It appears the rails the seat assembly rides on are at least an inch off the floor, maybe a bit more.

Any help would be really appreciated.

I'm only 5' 7" but that's the first thing I noticed in my 07 and I thought the same thing,.. lower the seat.
Looking at the seat brackets it looks like there's room to lower the seat but, there isn't.
Under the 'center" of the seat on the floor, there's a hump on the floor from the AC/Heat tube that directs air to the back.
It's almost touching the underneath of the seat and you'll see there's no spare room to lower the seat.

Short of thinning out the foam in the seat bottom I don't see a fix.

Just my observation.

Re: Lowering Driver's Seat

hey i totally agree. I'm 6'6 and everytime I spike up my hair it always presses against the roof. I also find the legroom to be limited especially since I wear size 18s.

Re: Lowering Driver's Seat

The seat seems about 2" higher than my 03' Escalade, while I got used to it, you would have a better feel if the seat could be lowered more than it is now.

Re: Lowering Driver's Seat

Pretty crazy to have such a big truck and not have room for a 6-footer in there, isn't it? Isn't anyone in the GM design studio over 6 feet tall?

Re: Lowering Driver's Seat

You're right, it is crazy. The Cadillac website says the Escalade has 41 inches of front seat headroom and it has nowhere near that. I'm very disappointed.

Re: Lowering Driver's Seat

Anyone ever find a solution. I`m 6`6` and wanting to buy a 2009,Ext, but it definitely isn`t as roomy as my 2003 Ext. Seat seams to need to be lowered and moved back.

Re: Lowering Driver's Seat

Only suggestion is find one without the sunroof. That will get you some extra space. I have a sunroof and if was any taller than 6'2" ( I am approx 6'0"), I would definitely start thinking about a sunroof delete.

Re: Lowering Driver's Seat

yep same situation as prev posts......Having no sunroof in the 08-ext is the only practical answer I have come up with.

Re: Lowering Driver's Seat

Any chance of taking the truck to a shop that does interior custom work, they might have a suggestion or may be able to modify the seat and bracket to work. In my experience if your wallet is fat enough you can always find a person to do the work you want, and do it right. BTW there should be some way possible as numerous NBA and NFL players purchase these vechicle and they are much larger than the average buyer.

I agree, Im 6'4 and there isn't much headroom. Ive caught myself brushing it more than once. I always find myself trying to lower it but it just wont go lower.

Ive seen our NBA & NFL Players driving them here, but they tilt the seat waaaaaay back!!!!

Re: Lowering Driver's Seat

Yes I have seen that too but have also seen the drivers seat and bracket moved back completely for Shaq to drive it, so if you have the money it can be done.

Yup. One of my partners played college hoops and is NBA size. He pushes the seat way back and tilts it way back in his Suburban. Ironically, he fits a little better in his S550. Still has to tilt back, but not quite as much.

I believe that, in my benz's with the seat all the way back like I drive my other cars, I am not that tall 5'10 , I can not touch the pedals , can in all my other cars and SUV, but the benz give you a lot of leg room.

Re: Lowering Driver's Seat

Thanks for the replies, guess I`ll have to stick with the 03 for now. Shame though I really was impressed with the new one, aside from the cramped driver space.
