This is not good...where did you end up on this? Do you have the light kit yet? I almost ordered but did not for some reason. Let me know as i am ready to place my order now.

Thanks

Re: HID/Xenon Fog Lights

This may seem off topic considering the problems you are having with this guy but i want you all to know that i have considerable experience with HID Kits and lights.

My last truck, a 2003 toyota 4runner, started with an HID kit install, then an upgrade with a wire harness - an absolute must - then i did an HID fog install with wire harness (Relays) and finally a installed Acura TSX projectors into my factory headlights.

Any 'kit' you install must install with a harness. don't listen to anyone whom says you don't need one. It's true they will work without the harness but you WILL eventually burn the connections and factory wireing. It's just not designed to carry the large current load at startup.

Please all, the truck retails for close to $70,000K; spend the extra $25 and use a harness when installing the HID fogs.

MB

PS - i've ordered a kit with a harness (relays/fuses/etc) I will install once it arrives. I've ordered a 5000K kit along with matching 5000K D1S low beam bulbs.

Re: HID/Xenon Fog Lights

I think you meant $70K. A $70,000K better all be solid gold or platinum or whatever.

I was going to be lazy and not do the harness but after your input i will go the extra mile and install the harness as well. What Brand HID kit did you buy? i am thinking of the McCulloch H10 with the 5000k bulb AND harness. Let me know your thoughts and aslo how the harness connects to the HID kit and battery.

Thanks

I bought the kit from www.xenondepot.com it's a decent kit; it has seperate ignitors and ballasts which mean more wiring - and it includes a good quality relay harness; not bosch relays but you can swap out the relays in the kit with bosch (not really necessary).

The kit is a little more expensive than the Mcculloch you're thinking about; but i would say the Mccolloch is OK as well. Just make sure you get a decent warranty and you shoud be fine with it.

I'm glad you will go with the harness; you're lights will work great; there won't be any 'flickering' at startup; and you wont get any funny error codes triggered by the high voltage at startup overloading your system.

If you want a great tutorial on HID upgrading; visit www.hidplanet.com/forums (I think you have to register; not sure) but you'll find a massive wealth of knowledge by doing some searching. Type in "relay harness" or "wire harness" and you will realize how important one is.

I've attached a picture with a description on how to hook up the harness.

Also, at HID PLANET; go to the "HID PLANET UNIVERSITY" section; there are tons of threads there that will educate you.

Here's 'the official harness thread' link:

http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6612

Here's another link to 'HID newb crash course [Learn the basics here]':

http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2080

This stuff is invaluable to you when learning; take an hour or so and you will learn tons about HID.

Good luck,
marco
