Long or short tube headers?

Remove this ad
What is the benefit of say the supermax long tube over say the JBA short tube?
Or vice versa.
I would think the shorter gives more tq correct?

Re: Long or short tube headers?

Shorties will give you 5-10 hp over stock, not worth it IMO, long tubes will give you 15-25 hp, more if you have other mods like catback exhaust, air intake and computer programming

Re: Long or short tube headers?

I have an unusual situation.
I have a complete engine/tranny from an 07 ESV that I am installing in my Land Rover Defender 90.
I cant use the stock manifolds, as they wont clear the frame.
I was thinking of using JBA short tube headers that are TBC'd to keep down the heat and add some power as well. Since its used offroad, clearance is an issue.
I will be tuning the ECU and wont be running any cats, so the exhaust will be pretty flow through. My truck is about 2000 lbs lighter than the ESV, so Im assuming that it wont need much more power as the stock engine was 185hp/265/tq.

Do you think with a set of shortys, an ECU tune and free flow exhaust it will hit 450hp?

Re: Long or short tube headers?

Where do you live? There are some companies that will build you custom headers on your truck. I understand about making systems fit for different apps. With a tune, good air intake, good exhaust no cats you will easily see 450, add larger t-body, Fast intake manifold, larger injectors and you will see near 500.

Re: Long or short tube headers?

In FL
I sent you an email on your site as well.
thanks!

450hp is fine, with maybe 475ish+ tq.
Even fully loaded with gear the truck never weighs much over 4500lbs.
I just want it to run as good as possible and shift well.
