Pre-'07 wind noise?

Remove this ad
I see all the threads about wind noise in the '07s, but what about the previous generation? I have an '05 and frankly the wind noise that I get doing 80 on the highway makes me want to drive the damn thing into the ocean. Is there a well-known or accepted fix for this? It appears be be coming in where the A-pillar and door meet, but I'm not positive.

Re: Pre-'07 wind noise?

My 03' made almost no wind noise, where is your noise coming from i.e. driver or rear door?

Re: Pre-'07 wind noise?

+1 my 03 nad no noise. I have seen several 07 wind noise threads. IIRC people are having their dors adjusted to help the problem. Another fella posted his own fix. Do a search.

Re: Pre-'07 wind noise?

It could be a number of things and hard to tell.
How long have you had it.
Did you get it used and was it always noisy.
Did you get it new and was it always noisy.
My 04 was very quiet, unlike my 07
At one time I had to have the windshield in my 04 replaced and it wasn't sealed correctly.
Then it had wind noise until the windshield was sealed correctly.

Your doors might need to be adjusted.

Just some info for thought.
Let us know what you find.

Re: Pre-'07 wind noise?

My 03 and 05 had hardly any wind noise at all.

My 07 is terrible, been to the dealer 4 times, tried everything on the forums to resolve the issue without any luck.

Just to give you an idea, my 07 has more wind noise than my Ferrari with the top down!

Re: Pre-'07 wind noise?

Well this gives me hope since it sounds like it may simply be a maintenance issue.

I bought it used a couple of months ago, around 40k on the clock. It's been noisy since I got it.

Re: Pre-'07 wind noise?

My 07' has wind noise also I flip the mirrors inward and it changes the pitch, being a body/trim mechanic for about 6 years I will probally fill in the body weather seal with vacume hose to stiffen up the seal. I'll give the dealer a shot of repairing it first.

Re: Pre-'07 wind noise?

My guess on the 02-06 models if there is ( excessive ) wind noise,.. something changed from when it was new and needs fixing.
Shouldn't be a problem, .. just my opinion.
But, Specificly on the 07 EXT's it's a different story.
Search previous posts on 07 wind noise.
There's about an hour of reading on multiple fixes, including GM Bulletins on what to do to fix it,...none of which work completely.
I spent 4 weeks working on mine, myself, and, bringing it to the dealer a few times.
Once they adjusted my front doors it helped, slightly more than a " little".
The back doors are already so far in.. from the Factory they can't be adjusted in any further but you can see they don't seal tight.
There is something wrong with the "design" of the vehicle the way the weather stripping is ( cheap or designed wrong and not sealing correctly) and the way the doors line up.
I went so far as to add 3/16" thick stick on weather stripping, sealing all my doors and back window,..to the point where the doors needed to be closed forcefully or they wouldn't close.
Still,.. Lots of wind noise.
The Avalanche Forum ( 07's ) if full of posts on the "Exact same problem" and nobody has had any success either.
I've yet to see a post or hear from someone that fixed the wind noise or had it fixed " successfully".

One of the members on this Forum, back in March, traded his 07 back in and got another 07 that was only 3 weeks old and it also had terrible wind noise.
Went back to the dealer and tried out 6 different New vehicles on the lot and they ALL had the same Exccessive wind noise.
I also went to my dealer and tried a new, one month old 07, and it was worse than mine.

The weird thing is, with mine al least:
Some days, very short periods.. there's almost no wind noise at all, even at 80 MPH,.. which seems to depend on the weather temperature.

Don't know if anyone has fixed, or had theirs fixed successfully, but I'd certainly like to hear someone say they did, and if so.. How? .
