Check Engine light just came on, can I reset it?

I have an 02 EXT... I just hit 55,000 miles & the check engine light came on. My wife has a Suzuki Grand Vitara & the exact same thing happened at 55,000 miles. It was easy to reset. I'm figuring this is the same deal but how do I reset it, or can't I?

you can reset it, but the light will probably come back fixing the problem would be a better idea. your friends car is japanese there is a big difference.

I guess what I was getting at is, does the light only go on when there is a problem or is it automatic at certain mileage? I figured it was just a dummy light to go on to remind you to service the vehicle every so often just like the change oild light every 3000 miles.

It only comes on when there is a problem. If you have Onstar, ask them to do a remote diagnostic check.

turn the key on and pull the "pcm batt" or "pcm ign" fuse (not sure wich one it is so just pull both) wait about 30 sec and then pull the key and replace the fuses.
80% of the time its a sensor going out. every one in a blue moon though it does come on for something crazy and there really is nothing wrong.

its prob a 2 cent oxygen sensor. just go to auto zone theyll scan it free and tell u what the problem si

Fast66 I'm gonna try that in a few minutes... or as soon as I find the fuses you're talkin about. I have no idea where the fuse pannel is... But great tip! Thanks!
