HomeLink not working...

Remove this ad
My homelink seems like it works fine, meaning, all of the light come on when I push the buttons & they seem like they program fine when I program the garage door openers but they don't open or close my garage. Am I doing something wrong? My garage door opener is older (1999) is the remote to old or do i need to progam it manually? If so how?

Re: HomeLink not working...

some garage door openers need 2 way communication with the remote - they need to be "synced"
see if you can lookup your instruction manual online for the garage door opener, and it should have the datails on how to do it

Re: HomeLink not working...

Your garage opener should have a button on it (front or back) once you get the remote and homelink programmed, you push the button for 5 seconds and all should be fine, read your garage opener info.

I wish it was so easy... The opener has 3 buttons on it... I followed the directions to the T & nothing.

Re: HomeLink not working...

I am talking about the garage opener bolted to your ceiling, not the remote. It should say "learn" and usually is a red or yellow button near the light bulb.

Re: HomeLink not working...

I had one hell of a time programming it. Search 'Homelink' and read up. There is something with some of the openers that has a "dynamic" code as opposed to "static." Essentially, you do it twice and the homelink programs the opener (not the opener programs the homelink, but the homelink programs the opener.). Sound extremely wierd and difficult, but it is so worth the frustration....

Re: HomeLink not working...

Go to www.homelink.com and follow links for assistance programming your device.

Most modern door openers use "rolling code" technology.
Once you train the car to work as a remote (programming the button) then you MUST reprogram ALL your remotes, including your car, to the device.
Homelink's website has a really good little setup to help you figure it out.
I have had problems in the past with one button refusing to program so I tried another one and it worked the first time.
