So I drive an 05 EXT on 24s... and someone called me and told me the car I drive is unprofessional and they wouldnt let me sell their house. Is that rediculous or is it just me? What does my car have anything to do with my professionalism... I'm always in slacks and a dress shirt and very courteous to all my customers. Anybody else have this problem? In a way I'm kinda glad i'm not selling their house because if they are this anal now... imagine after i start working for them. So mad!!!!

Some people view the EXT so differently than a normal Escalade.. Nevermind if its hooked up... Personally I dont see any difference in the vehicle a person drives but maybe these people saw a hooked up truck and were like this guy is young and whatever.. everytime i step out of my truck its either i have a rich dad or im selling drugs.. it cant be just cuz i work my ass off to have nice things... people get impressions by your appearance and i guess a hooked up vehicle is not everyones idea of a hard working mature person... f "em in my opinion..

I am in Real Estate to and started working under my parents and I was told by a friend not to put 24's on b/c people will think Im unprofessional. I had talked to my dad and he said he doesnt see why it would really affect me, as long as I dont go crazy with the modifications, if anything it shows that at my age I am very successful and can afford to have nice things.

I hate when people judge b/c they see rims on the car, or its done up very nice.

Would they rather have someone pull up in a corolla to list their house? I mean you would think that having a $50-60K truck would show that you are pretty succesful at what you do and that you know your stuff.

What a bunch of a- holes! Let them sell their own house then, if they are going to be like that!

I would totally understand if you "over-did" custom your car. Like have stickers or slamming it to the ground with air ride suspension. Also bumping your system pulling up to their house. Now that would be unprofessional.

But if you just have a "clean" truck with nice wheels, that looks classy enough, and should be okay and look professional

Thats my .02 cents

because its an immature car. its like bling bling and stuff. you wanna get profesionall get a sedan, a benz s-class or a beemer. never show up with those porn cars like cadillac, ferarri or something. a pimped car shows you got the $$, but you waste it on unnecessary stuff.

I have a 04 EXT with 22's. I sell apartment buildings (investment properties). I get all kinds of compliments on my truck. My clients are very impressed by it. Never once has anyone said it was unprofessional. In fact I know it has helped me make a few sales. Its paid for itself and more.

someone mentioned this about a year ago saying that they lost business because of having an escalade on 24's. I say just buy a really cheap car and use that for your work. I have the jeep liberty for when I work or when i go to school. A lof of haters go to school.

Commerical is different, you can get away with driving nicer cars, you clients think you are doing good and want to give you their business, residential is very different, people are quick to judge you

The truth about being in sales is that you are first selling yourself.

The "conservative image" is the best approach, and not a weak image (driving a Yugo). A BMW-5 Series costs about the same as a lade, but will certainly telegraph a completely different picture about you.

You're young too, so you have to work harder to project maturity and experience. You might feel that you should be able to "be yourself", but when your livelyhood depends on how others see you, you're better off giving them what they want.

What RE company do you work for? Im a Title Rep in HB and I do hear stuff like that all the time especially since most of my clients are twice my age. Dont think it has ever really put me at a disadvantage against my competitors though.

im going to school to be in the real estate field and my cousin told me that i should get another car like a 4dr sedan and leave it bone stock, right now i have a 03 escalade w/22's and he said a lot of people will judge you by what you drive and a car w/rims doesnt have the 'grown man' look.

I get the same thing that CaddyKidd gets. I am young also and so people assume one of two things...either somebody died and left me a bunch of money that i just blew on a vehicle or i am selling drugs.

Different things appeal to different people.

I also agree with DLE. It would be different if you pulled up in an Escalade that was lowered with a crazy paint job and the speakers bumping. But if it is a "clean" looking vehicle with nice wheels to set it off...there SHOULDNT be anything wrong with that.

I think it might stem from a little bit of jealousy. Or it might be that they think since you drive that kind of vehicle...you are in the business of ripping people off and taking them for everything you can get.

just my humble opinion.

I'm in sales, and any good salesman knows that you should try to be everything to your customers. If a certain image is required to make the most dollars per hour then do that. You can be "youself" all the way to the bank.

This is a interesting topic but I think the image is changing I see alot of old people with rims on their rides now. I can see to some it might be intimidating but to me if I was selling my crib and you rolled up in a Escalade on dubs, I would be happy, cause I know this guy will work hard for me to keep those rims on his ride. It show me that your successful in what you do and that your damn good 2.

If I were selling real estate to the general public, I wouldn't show up in an Escalade, or any truck for that matter, with 24 inch rims.. I also wouldn't show up with rings on every finger, big, thick gold chains and a rolex. I'd rather they felt comfortable with me as a down-to-earth person just like them.

But that's just me...
