Our 2006 Escalade check engine light came on, code read "vacuum leak", We have had the problem with the gas cap before and had replaced it, so I didn't think much of it. While on the highway the other day, at speeds of 60 - 70, the transmission kept switching in and out of overdrive.
Is there a Vacuum switch for the overdrive of the transmission, or am I looking at bigger problems?

    Thanks in advance

    Codes are p0449, p0455, p0442

Can you post what the code number is. There is no vacuum sensor on the trans. All the shifting is done by electric solenoids controlled by the engine computer, the PCM.

Replaced solenoid (was on top of engine towards front, not in front of tank), seems to run OK, but check engine light did not go out, do I need to reset it? If so how?

Its on because there is still a fault in the system somewhere

See what codes it is and report back

your gonna need to clear it if you have done a repair it wont go out on its own until the obd system runs that particular test again and thats only if the problem was fixed, you can clear it with a scanner or disconnect the battery for a few minutes

I have never had to clear the codes to turn off the check engine light after replacing any bad part

The PCM runs tests on almost everything at start up(the o2 sensors are tested after they warm up unless the heater circuit is bad)

for the o2 sensors you are correct however they actually don't need to wait till warm up they just need to complete the circuit from 12v and back to the computer, other emission components related to evap are not tested right away the vehicle needs to be driven, evap is actually the hardest monitor to pass when performing a smog inspection cuz u really don't know when its gonna self test, some manuals offer driving instructions to expedite this process.. although some states don't require smog inspections the vehicles are alike
