    Aftermarket Radio horrible reception

I just installed a Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS in my 03 EXT and the radio reception is terrible. There are 2 radio stations within 12 miles of me and they don't even come in clear. I replaced the factory Nav and that worked fine. I recently sold another 03 with a Pioneer AVH-5600bt in it and it was the same, terrible reception, only had the truck a month before selling it and never looked into the problem. Has anyone run into this before if so how did you fix it?

Read my post just above yours I think it will help

I love having the iPod in the truck as it makes road trips more enjoyable (haven't got my sat radio tuner installed yet)

From what I am told there is no power anttenna wire in the harness, the radio has it but I don't think the truck does. If you know different please share cause it's driving me nuts.

Your thinking of the base and mid line radios this don't have the antenna amp like the premium radios do

The premium radios all have it

Its close to the power in my wiring diagrams and is dark green in color
There is also a red wire from the antenna amp don't use that as damage to your radio can happen

By any chance do you have a picture of the diagram? I have the Pac Audio RP5-GM11 plugged into the harness, there is one blue wire coming out that they state to not use, they were the ones that told there was no antenna amp in my vehicle

They likely thought you didn't have the premium radio package

Let me look up the install manual for that interface and see what wire goes to what

    ----------

Found the manual but it didn't show a pic of the wiring diagram below is a link showing the pinout of the radio harness
    http://crutchfield.custhelp.com/app/...b0FtWWFrTGs%3D

The power antenna is pin 15 and is dark green in the main harness

They likely think that the Tahoe and escalade use the same radio(they don't) the escalade has a power antenna booster due to the antennas being in the side windows

The ext does have a fender mounted whip antenna
The suv models have the antenna in the rear side windows

    The ext's do

the old school cell phone antenna is for the older onstar system(analog only) my mom's 02 has one
03 up has it on the roof

    ----------

Also(I forgot to add it) the first gen body style escalades have the whip antenna

The 03 up models with it in the rear windows do have a antenna booster which does have a turn on feed from the radio

Tahoe's don't have it as they have the base radio(non lux non Bose)

Certain models with the mid line radio don't have it

Just the premium radios (there is two versions but the wiring is the same)has the antenna power feed in the main harness due to two antennas in the rear windows

    Re: Aftermarket Radio horrible reception

I do have an EXT, I stated that in my original post and they all have the fender mounted antenna only, does an EXT have an antenna amp wire?

    It is possible but unlikely

I know my dad's h2 has the premium radio and it has a stubby antenna on the roof so I know it has to have the booster

Check the wiring diagram in the link I posted and if the wiring matches then it has it(my gm service manual shows the premium radios with a antenna power feed)
Gm could have put it in both pick up and suv body styles just used a different antenna(never tore into a ext to verify though)
