    oil pressure

2002 escalade 6.0L AWD. The oil pressure is at 40 during idle but when i accelerate the pressure goes all the to almost 80.
And i"m hearing a flutter when i accelerate. No loss of power just the flutter sound when accelerating. Any thoughts? I was told It might be the heat shield but when i saw the oil pressure gauge go up I got concerned. Hopefully someboddy can give me some insight.
    Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the sender unit is failing

The fluttering noise is possible the muffler heat shield weld broke

    Re: oil pressure

How about the oil pressure going from 40 to almost 80 when accelerating? I'm worried there might be something wrong with one of the cylinders

What's the problem? Oil pressure rises with RPM.

And cylinders have nothing to do with oil pressure.

could have a blockage. if it was me id put a can of seafoam in drive for 30 min then change oil and filter and see how she does afterward. if it still read high i would then hook a diagnostic oil pressure gauge to engine and test the pressure.

I just changed the oil. I sea foamed the gas but not the engine
I will do it since I still have a half can of sf left.

Not attacking you here but if your piston rings are shot you will lose compression and get a lot of blowby out the exhaust which will also show in a loss of oil pressure.

    Re: oil pressure

Mine does this too - I think it is normal. My truck oil needs typically sits a little above the 1/4 marker on the gauge (warm oil) at idle. When accelerating or driving highway etc the needle goes to about 1/2 level in the gauge. This is the same for most cars I think - pressure is much lower at idle RPMs than higher RPMS as the oil pump runs on the engine.

I agree its normal as mine has peaked around 60psi under hard acceleration with fresh oil and filter

    Re: oil pressure

But mine goes to 80 during acceleration and idles at 40 during idle. I'm not sure what is going on. I don't feel a loss of pressure. And I put 6 quarts of 5w-30 when I change the oil. Is that too little? I think the manual said 6 quarts but for an 8 cylinder?? Seems not enough. Now when the wife presses on the brakes she hears a creaking sound everytime she presses on the pedal as if something is about to snap or pop. Weird. I've heard that creeking sound when I pumped the brakes several times when the car is off but, now everytime she presses the pedal we can hear the sound clearly. Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

Oil sounds normal if you get a warning message in the DIC then worry

My 03 has made the creaking noise from time to time (more when its cold outside) not sure but I will try and locate the noise as it is annoying

You won't "feel" a loss of pressure. About the only time you will feel it is if you have a bearing failure and seize the motor. Just make sure your amount of oil is at the proper level on the dip stick and you will be fine. Too little or too much oil can cause their own types of trouble.
