    Headers?

I found another broken exhaust manifold bolt. This makes three. Now I am considering pulling the manifolds, replacing the bolts and installing headers. I have searched the forum and all the header threads are old. Anyone have headers on their Escalades? Good or bad experiences? What brand? Long tube or short tube? Louder? Performance gain?

    Re: Headers?

Check out this article from Hot Rod Magazine. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/e...s_small_block/

I came across this article awhile back while researching the LQ9 engine we have in our trucks. Long tube headers give a pretty decent boost. They did the build up in stages with headers on a stock engine and tune as a starting point. It looks pretty impressive to me.

Are there any problems with changing spark plugs with long tube?

Not appreciable difference, PIA ether way, however recommend using the best silicone plug wires you can get to deal with the additional heat, and likelihood of plug wire coming in contact with header tube. Also, get quality coated headers to maximize the life of the headers and minimize the heat situation. I have had both the long and short headers, and in my experience, only the long tube gave any real benefit in performance. The stock manifolds are virtually the same as short tubes if you look at them. They are not nearly as inefficient as the stock manifolds on the older small block motors. Just my experience.
