What type of gas should i use for my 2002 cadillac ext

    Hey guys,
so I just recently bought a 2002 cadillac. And I have been hearing things like you can only use "ultimate" gas. I always fill mine up with "silver" will my truck break down or is this ok. What type of gas do you guys use let me know thanks.

This has absolutely nothing to do with CUE. A mod will move your thread for you.

You don't need to run premium. This information is in your owners manual.

Run whatever in it. If the octane is too low and the engine knocks as a result of cheap gas, the computer may retard the timing a little to prevent knocking. That will result in slightly less throttle response, but it doesn't hurt the engine.
The above post is my 2 cents....nothing more.

Premium is recommended but not required. The vehicle will run on 87, just not very well in my experience.

Your fuel needs are based on your driving conditions and style. All of my vehicles require premium but they all get mid-grade fuel except for the Corvette. The engine and management technology isn't as modern on my 96 so it actually needs it, 93 for the Vette, 89 for the other vehicles.

Put too low an octane in and you'll lose power and fuel economy. Put too high an octane in and you lose economy. The octane isn't a measure of the power of the gasoline, only it's knock resistance. Selecting the right fuel will give you the balance between knock resistance and energy potential in the fuel.

I don't drive my vehicles hard so mid-grade gives my best fuel economy. If I was towing a heavy load or drag racing stoplight to stoplight, I'd likely put premium in it.

Read the fine print on snake oil "octane boosters" - Something like "Can raise octane by 2 points !!!" - as in: from 87 to 87.2. So you spend the additional cost of ~2 gallons of gasoline for what ? All you do is to raise the cost of operation, and line someone else's pockets.

The stuff is a waste of money, as is most store-bought snake oil. Google "spiff" to find out why we love to sell tons of the stuff.

Octane ratings for modern vehicles driven under a variety of conditions are discussed in the owner's manual.

I agree as most octane additives are worthless for the price paid

I use 93 octane currently. Manual states can use 87 octane but recommends higher octane. When I tried both,I did notice a loss in power and drop in miles per gallon using 87. Economically, the loss in miles per gallon is offset by higher octane being more expensive, but the feel of the car (power) was enough to keep me using 93 octane. Maybe it is psychological, but truck seems to run better on 93, feels like I am taking better care of engine over the long run.

My uncle told me that gm designed the 6.0 to run on premium 93 octane fuel due to the compression(I think its 10:1 or something like that) it also gives the best proformance

If u want to run 87 octane, I would suggest every once in a while u filler up with 91 or premium. I use premium every fill.

Periodically filling with "premium" would have no effect on anything.

i used 87 and 89 all the time. i actually found using 93 vs the cost i actually save money beacause i got better mileage and power with 93 octane. engine felt much better. id average 15 to 16 mpg on 87 and now 17-19mpg on 93 where i live it cost me $59 to fill from the last line. on 93 cost $63 to fill. ill stick with 93 octane.just a side note im programed on hypertech max power setting.

I run 93 octane, top tier gas in my truck. It cost a bit more but I think it's worth it.
