I posted something similar in the AV forum, but I wanted to see also if anyone here has successfully got this up and running and how its working. My PLAN is to just splice into the wiring coming from the XM module and hijack it while leaving XM in place and "on" to send the signal to the radio unit. Has anyone done this successfully? I dont care about losing XM, I dont use it.

A girl I work with has a FM transmitter on her IPOD that works 30ft away. Given the fact that you can't operate the pod from the HU and roadnoise negates any gains in clarity-whats the difference? |

NO WAY dude... have you ever HEARD the difference between a direct line level or even CASSETTE ADAPTER connection and an FM Modulator? It is literally 1000 times better. Use an FM modulator and you lose every nuance in the music because it cuts out like 2-3khz worth of high end frequencies. Those things are annoying to use because of signal fade, they need batteries or ANOTHER adapter... Its more of a mess than you think. The Bose system in my truck sounds terrific when fed a good source, the FM radio however could stand improvement, and Ive used a ton of different modulators in different cars, and even the ones that feed directly into the antenna (Permanent jobs like CD Changers) sound like absolute crap to my ears. Controlling the ipod is no big deal, its right there at hand and I set it to randomize anyway. |

I use a PXGM24 and it gives me 2 sets of aux-in's without losing anything. It's a plug and play solution to the back of the headunit.
Besides, there is an IPOD adapter (IPOD2CAR) that would even give the possibility to scroll the tracks with the radio and steering wheel buttons like the changer.
Not sure but I think using the IPOD2CAR means losing the connection to the changer. |

No youre right I am aware of the input adapters, however I was just wanting to splice into the harness myself and then have a single set of RCA's hanging just within reach somewhere on the dash. My CD Changer is INTERNAL so I wont lose that, but I know I will lose the audio from XM. |

And when you trade or sell it all you have to do is unplug it.
just my .02..................I've seen when guys have tried to splice & chop!

I know, call me cheap or whatever, I want to tackle a damn project on my own for once without going around it by spending 40 or 50 bucks to do it, and this is one where I feel I am capable of doing a quality job. I always want to do a project and end up getting sidetracked for one reason or another. I know you mean well, but I also know you work with stereos alot, have you seen any pinouts for the wiring harness by chance? I could really use it if you have it.
As far as trading or selling it, thats their issue to deal with, and even then, itll be easy for me to reattach everything if necessary. I GUARANTEE you I will not be using XM ever again. |

Alright, I got what I needed from digging around in the Avalanche forum on that Navigation thread no less...
Here is the XM Radio propietary connector pinout. If im right in what im thinking, all I need to do is splice into wires "2 and 3" and be done with it. However, im left wondering what wire 10 "COMMON AUDIO SIGNAL" does |

The only caveat is that because I made splices on both ends of my audio cable due to a mistake, I now have a bit of line hum but well worth the tradeoff for the FM modulator drift and terrible quality. Best of all, all I have to do is resplice it back in if I need to trade the truck in. |

have a nice day.

I didnt splice into the Common ground wire number 10 (obviously I dont install car stereos for a living, and i respect those who do greatly). If I splice into it with the right and left negative leads, this should cure my hum. But Yes I agree, If I was doing this for someone else, I would never send it out like this. |
