AC not cooling at idle and engine getting hot

    Hey guys,
My wife has to wait in line to pick my kids up from school for 30-45 minutes everyday and her Escalade hasn't ever cooled very well idling and yesterday while waiting in line it was 105 outside and her car got up to 250 degrees and she shut the AC off and the temperature slowly came back down. I got in it after work and drove it for about 30 minutes and the AC worked fine driving but horrible at idle and it never got hot as I never just let it sit. Checked the antifreeze and it's full.
What could cause my AC to get hot and my engine?? Fan clutch??

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
It is possible the fan clutch will cause that

It sounds like the fan clutch isn't engaging like it should

The fan should put out a lot of air and can even be felt under the truck with the hood closed

I was just watching the fan run and it seems like it's running ok at idle and when I shut the vehicle off it free spins a little but the fan isn't super easy to spin by hand. You can definitely tell it has some resistance.

How much air flow is it putting out at idle?

You really can't tell by looking if the clutch is bad on the fan but the way your truck is behaving it is most likely the fan clutch
It should engage at low speeds and disengage at high speeds(truck speed not engine rpms)

Have you cleaned around the radiator? Sometime debris builds up in there and impedes the air flow

No sir I have not cleaned around it. I did look around it on the backside and it looked pretty clean. If the fan clutch is cheap enough I'll just buy one and hopefully be done with this.
    Thanks for the input.

Do you know what it takes to do the conversion and you only gain maybe 4-5 hp anyway then you can't just get any replacement PCM should yours fail

Believe it or not my wife's escalade does the exact same thing. She's been out of town for a while, we're actually headed home at the moment and will tackle this issue tomorrow. Going highway speed does yours stay at a constant 190-210? Mine will drop down to 175-185. I'm going to start with the t-stat. The cheapest and quickest. If that doesn't help I will convert to factory e-fans.

Hope ths helps! From the GM Website, the 2005 and up models got the E fans:

    New for 2005

The model year 2005 brings subtle refinements. The primary change is a new, premium instrument cluster with bright chrome rings around gauges and more detailed graphics. In addition, new burled walnut trim replaces traditional Zebrano trim. All models receive a bright chrome exhaust tip.The vehicle also will receive an all-new cooling system with two electric cooling fans, and the charging system also has been upgraded with a new 160 amp alternator and regulated voltage control. This will help improve A/C performance. Riptide, a teal blue metallic exterior paint, replaces Arrival Blue.
