They have to be desoldered, but the good news is you only have to touch the backside of the circuit board for a quick second with the solder gun and I used my thumb to "release" the bulb. Its a very easy and quick process per bulb.

groovy, I'll add this to my list of things to do. seems pointless to replace the whole switch for just a bulb even if they are relatively inexpensive

Just make sure you let the truck sit with the battery disconnected for at least 45mins before you remove the air bag unless you want a broke nose

Im a pro tech I did not unplug the air bags just tiped it out of the way and used Dorman assy's from Rock Auto (my were rubed off) around $15. each. I know you don't mess around with air bags and I don't but we have NEVER had one blow off. Good Luck

Can you get just a new switch with the bulbs in it so you dont have to solder?

Yes but it depends on your budget(plus LEDs last longer and run cooler then standard bulbs)

Thanks again for the great write up...I had mine replaced with switches off ebay..just needed 3 out of 4 done. my local cadillac tech did them on the side for me. had to take the wheel off and airbag out, because there wasn't enough slack in the wiring for one of them. no waiting 45 min w/ battery unhooked, etc. just cleared the airbag code when reinstalled.

He knower what he was doing that's why he didn't unhook the battery but it is recommended if you do it yourself as static discharge can cause the air bag to deploy

Seems like ALOT of work when you can just buy all new switches for 100 bucks, pull the old ones out, pop the new ones in, BAM! Easy enough! .... Excellent job on the post though! pictures couldn't be better!

Great info. So glad that Cadillac saved so much money on these cheap bulbs. I have 3 to replace on my steering wheel and four others in the other switches.
