air condition system works perfect....but... once and a while when I start my car the air will suddenly blows hot air to
windshield vent area. both sides. If I shut engine off and wait for few minutes then restart the engine the A/C will blow
cold. system will work fine. problem is intermittent for past month. Escalade has 104,000 miles and runs and drives xlnt except for the A/C. anyone have same situation and if so what to do?
Look for other threads about this subject. Mine does the same thing except it just blows hot on the driver's dash grilles... It seems the consensus is that it's the stepper motor that controls the mixing air valves, and that it's "easy" to remove and replace them ... (look up your own definition of "easy".. ahahah)... have been told that the electronic controls probably are not the culprit.... haven't fixed mine yet.. I just pull off the side of the road, turn it off and start back up... just like you..

Actually, it is the "Mode Actuator". I replaced mine a year ago. It is going bad and will happen more and more frequently. And it is not easy to fix, but not impossible either. IIRC, it is under the lower dash on the Drivere Side. I had all 4 actuators replaced (Mode, Passenger Temperature, Driver Temperature & Recirculate), my Pass Temp & Recirc were bad, so I replaced them all (my 2004 had 170K miles, and I didn't want them to go one by one every few months). Bite the bullet and take it to the dealership and use GM Parts. I used aftermarket (Dorman) and the Mode Actuator lasted a couple weeks.

I hated to hear that because mine does the same thing from time to time (I was told at the dealer it was the control unit) at least the actuators are cheaper then the control unit(FYI I only use gm parts on my truck as my uncle bugs me every time about it every time I mention a aftermarket part(he used to work at gm)luckily he doesn't know my throttle body is a aftermarket part and never will(hopefully the thing doesn't fail
When the after market Mode Actuator went out, my AC started blowing out of the Defrost Vents. After it was replaced by the GM Actuator, all went well and I have had no more problem since - about 11 months now.
