I did a front seat swap..

on our 04 ESV. My wife had crunched the seat adjustment switch ($110 at my local dealer) on the side and the back seat heater had burnt out previously anyway. I picked up a seat from an 05 escalade in terrific condition for $120 from a local yard. Old one out, new one in...what could go wrong? Well, what I learned is the passenger occupant sensor was not being recognized by my truck with the 05 seat. Dash airbag light on as well as the message on rearview mirror continually reading passenger airbag off, even with a passenger. The solution was to remove the original seat bottom with all its sensors and put it on the donor 05 seat frame. A little bit of monkey business. $60 at my local Cadillac dealer to reset and we are good. Thought I would share.

it could be possible that the sensor in the replacement seat was bad.

What kind of shape is the seat bottom / spring you removed in? What color is it? My driver's seat has a broken spring grid, currently looking for one to replace it (it sags really bad). The leather has a tear about 1.5 inches long where the seam is starting to come apart, but isn't terrible yet. I'd be happy with just a replacement spring at this point. No u-pull yards around here, I'm afraid. If yours is not destroyed, would you consider selling it? I'd only need the bottom part, so shipping shouldn't be too terrible. Let me know

edit: It sounds like you replaced a passenger seat (I can't read good). Maybe the spring grid would be the same at least?

I cant rule that out...the dealer said there was a different sensor in the 05 than the 04. I found that a little hard to believe, but could not prove otherwise.

black88GTA=fellow thirdgen owner? I donated the old seat to a buddys garage...very comfy!

Yes indeed! Didn't think I'd find too many others here. Doesn't seem like the two markets would overlap all that much. Mine's currently in Michigan - actually planning on towing it out to NY with the Escalade once I get the issues sorted out and trust the truck more. It's got a brand new engine in it which needs to be broken in before long expressway trips, so no driving it out here.

I think gm did change the sensor over the years so the dealer could be right
Also I can attest as to how comfy the seats are as I have made multiple trips that are130 miles one way and never got sore or have back pain after the trip I can't say the same about my dad's hummer h2.
