Nice but given it was made in the sixties I doubt there is any still around but hopefully he didn't get any major engine damage.

I have noticed it only happens after 40mph when it feels like overdrive kicks in so i put it in third gear and no shudder. Maybe a trans problem?

That is when the torque converter kicks in so you might should get it checked out before more damage happens to the tranny.

Driving today, I really tried to pay attention to the shudder and I am convinced it is not the engine, it is either in the front end or the tranny / driveshaft / torque converter. Any ideas how to narrow it down? Due to the flooding that caused this, I am considering an insurance claim if is turns out to be very expensive.

I suggest letting a shop see to it as the water may have done some damage to something.

To update, while at the auto parts store, I ran into a Cadi mechanic who said to check the converter that I should get it to shudder then lightly push brake pedal while maintaining speed to dissengauge the converter. When I did this the shudder immediately went away and everything was smooth. I believe the culprit is the converter.

if you had the tranny rebuilt then you should have some type of coverage on this.

Then it may cost but it will get the tranny back in order.

It's never a good idea to drive into a flooded street.

That is true and after reading this thread I think I will take it a bit easier when I drive on wet roads and go across the one's that have deep water less also as a new engine can quickly total out a older truck which last I checked the 6.0 is about 7to8 grand which ain't cheap.

The insurance company totaled the vehicle over a TC? Seems weird to me.

    Sorry for your loss.
