Backup sensors not functional- all 4 plugged in on bumper, dash button lights up...

Recently picked up our 2005 ESV Platinum and the reverse sensors have never worked. All of them are plugged in and the dashboard button lights up as if everything should be normal, but nothing. What are the odds all 4 sensors are bad? Do they all fail if one fails? Any ideas where I should start here? Thanks in advance.

If you mind me asking what dose the system do when you have the truck in reverse?
Do you get a single blinking red light? if yes then a sensor bad,if no then check and make sure the button on the dash hasn't been pushed(the light next to it would be on if it has) if no
Then here is what you do under the right second row seat is the module for the park asset and the diagnostic harness is close to it,
Jump that harness then turn the key to run but don't start the engine and put the truck in reverse and watch the lights for a dtc and get back to me and I will help you figure out what is wrong.

As the above post stated, the button on the dash is to deactivate the reverse sensors (Park Assist). For use when you are hooked up to a trailer, etc. If the light is ON, then the system is Deactivated.

Thank you both- I drove it this morning and the button was indeed disabled (light on). Turned it on (light off), but still doesn't appear to be functional. Though I was in a hurry and didn't take time to deliberately get close to something in the back. I'll try again this evening and take a look under the passenger seat and update then.

If it does the bulb check then the lights go off until you get close to something while you are backing up then it should be ok but if the red light is flashing and you ain't going over ten miles an hour then the system needs checking.

Definitely no blinking red light next to the dash button. Sorry, jump the harness? I haven't looked at it yet, but is it a two-lead cable I should just stick a paper clip into, or...? Thanks

Yes it is a two lead cable not far from the module with a Bosch logo on it

The Blinking Red Light is not on the Dash, but it is located in the back corner near the rear door on the Passenger Side.

Sometimes the BCM module is under the rear passenger seat visible when you lift up the bottom seat cushion. I found mine wrapped up in the wire harness plastic conduit coming out of the carpet running into the black box under the seat. I believe it is one green and one black wire with a plastic connector on the end that you stick both ends of a bent paper clip into with the truck turned off. Make sure all your sensor plugs on the back bumper are clean and securely connected then turn your key on and put your foot on the brake and shift to reverse within 5 or 15 secs and watch in your rear view mirror what the three lights do at the back corner by the rear hatch window. There is an easy chart online that tells you exactly which sensor or multiple sensors or problems with the module. Its actually a pretty quick and easy diagnoses. My problem was a dirty or loose connection on the drivers side bumper connector so it didn't cost anything for me to fix just a little time.

Y'know, I think they are working... is it just a "dong!" sound when you get closer? I thought the fuel gauge was just too low.

Pretty silly, or ambiguous more specifically. On my Audi, there is more of a "deet... deet... deet... deetdeetdeetdeet...deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet" when you approach an object. A "dong!" tells me nothing! Oh well, I'm integrating a backup camera into the nav system next week. That should be more detailed.

One single ding is when it first finds something as you get closer is a consent dinging believe me I know just don't back up faster then 5mph or you might hear a noise you don't want to hear but I also added a back-up cam because I tow a trailer a lot and it makes a world of difference when backing up to hitch up a trailer.

Re: Backup sensors not functional- all 4 plugged in on bumper, dash button lights up.

My URPA has never worked since I bought my truck in June of 2011. Then this thread comes up, and I read it. Next thing you know the dang thing starts working out of nowhere. Funny thing is in the mornings pulling out of the garage I just get a red blinking light, but in the afternoons when I am leaving work, it seems to work. All I can think of is an electrical short somewhere. I dont know what else it could be other than a bad connection somewhere.

This forum is funny. I start reading about bad air compressors, my compressor goes down. I read about whining diffs, my diff starts whining. I read about stuff falling inside the console and drop a debit card down there. The window guy who knows everything glass, go out to my truck and my windshield cracked in the meantime. start reading about non working park assist, and it starts to work. I don't know, but there is some correlation here. I love the forum and the truck, but it's weirding me out.

Hey they sometimes have that effect
but the park sensor module has a diagnostic connector which is under the right second row seat jump that then turn the key to run and shift in reverse to get the codes two outside lights is start and finish of the codes let me know what it shows cause the single blinking red light means a problem in the system.
