Re: 05 Escalade - Help replacing the Water Pump

Yes, i just replaced mine yesterday .. Probably the simpliest thing i i have ever done. it was 4 10m bolts(hold waterpump) 3 15mm( tensioner ) an 2 10mm(thermostat) Make sure u clean the area where ur gaskets sit.. a trick i used was a wet vac to suck up the water from the block so i can properly clean it... Im a lil ocd haha but all in all i knocked it out in less than 25min .... If u need any help ill be more than happy to assist u further

Thanks for your response. Maybe a dumb question but did you drain your radiator before taking the pump out and using the wet vac?

There is no reason to drain your radiator when changing a water pump, unless you just want to flush your radiator at the same time. I would suggest replacing your thermostat while you're at it, they are cheap.

I makes sense to flush he cooling system if you are changing the water pump....seems to me it would be like replacing the oil filter without changing the oil. If I have to tackle the cooling system, I replace everything...belts, hoses, tensioners, etc....now I am good for 50k miles.
