Hey guys i have an 02 its silver sand and i am changing the headlights tail lights front grille and putting rims on it and i was wondering if i should go with chrome for all these things or maybe with go with black. I am putting the projector headlights in with LED taillights a chrome mesh grille insert which will obviously be chrome and 22inch wheels and i was wondering if i should stick with chrome or go with black i have all tinted windows this is a picture of the truck
you should do something black lip with a machined stripe and face it would look hot on that pewter color! check out the 2 crave wheel line they got some really nice wheels! the machined parts of the wheel will match up great to the paint and black goes with most anything!! but thats just a wheel guys opinion!! lol
I love the look of chrome, but I don't think I'lll go that way anymore. Powdercoated is the way too go for long term good looks with minimal maintenance.
I had Polished Aluminum rims on my first car. They were never as shiny and a pain to polish (because of the shape of the rim).
I had Chrome rims on my next car when I was down in Florida. I had more time in school to wash them weekly and they were kept in good shape. Too bad I found the car on my landscaping rocks one morning.
My dad had chrome rims on the denali and a different set on the next suburban. Both became badly pitted after 1-2 years. Yes, he kept them on all year round and it was mostly the truck we took to Vermont or crappy weather truck, but he did have the truck washed regularly.
I have chrome rims on my EXT. They have been on for 3 summers now (I use the oem's as a winter set). Because I don't wash them regularly, they are pitted and dont have a deep shine. Cleaning them is easy but I don't do it too much. The only time I drive the truck in the summer is when it rains. The brake dust kills the rims. I'm pretty much SOL. Most people won't powder coat over them and rechroming them would be more than a new set. If they were polished, they could be fixed with a bit of elbow grease.
My dad's new truck has chrome "powdercoat". He bought all black rims and the chrome powercoating came out amazing. It's not as shiny as real chrome, but its really close. He has a 5 year warranty. They've been through 1 winter so far with no issues.
i do agree it is hard to clean any kind of rims which is why i am sticking with the stock rims until i can afford some different ones but i might wait untill i get it paid off first and i live on a dirt road
