Oil pressure at 80 and engine light on

I have a 2003 Escalade. The oil pressure sensor went straight up to 80 and the engine light came on. I shut it down immediately.. No other issues, engine oil is full, radiator is full and not running hot or making noises. Any ideas? I was thinking it could be the Oil Pressure Switch.

sounds like you need to "test" your oil pressure. you can buy a fairly cheap oil pressure gauge at any parts store. unscrew the oil pressure sender and screw in the gauge. run it and check it. I doubt the oill pressure is that high. if it really is maybe the oil filter is plugged?? have you changed the oil lately?

I would hope and pray that the oil pressure wasnt really at 80 but if it was and you shut down quick enough then there probably wasnt any significant damage done. That much crankcase pressure would definately cause some damage! As suggested above I would do an oil change to make sure nothing is plugged/clogged or anything like that unless you have done one recently. Hopefully its just a sensor or switch. Im not sure about the Escalade Oil Pumps but one my 2002 SS Camaro I had a similar issue when the stock Oil Pump crapping out on me. It was giving me all sorts of strange readings from really low to really high. Let us know though what it ends up being and hopefully its an easy fix!
