    Service airbag..GRRR

I hardly drive my 05 escalade, only on weekends. I started it up yesterday and it threw a "service airbag" message on my cluster. I already tried pulling the negative from the battery to reset it, but no luck. The battery is new btw. Since I'm at 77k miles, I no longer have warranty, I also called the stealerships and they told me they charge $120 to scan it. WT#@%!%^@!

Also, the passenger airbag turns on/off when there's a passenger present.

    Please help..

If anyone is in the Socal area and have a scan tool or know any reputable shops beside the stealers, please let me know!

    Thank you all.

Most of the time it is one of the impact sensors up under the front bumber. They aren't free but not bad.

yeah I read about others having issues with those sensors. Yeah price is not bad at all. Can I use a voltmeter to measure any resistance on the impact sensor that will determine if its going bad?

If you find out how to test them let me know....I have the light on also.I've checked everything else but have yet to come across a cheap sensor to replace it.

    They are both the same.

I had the same problem.... ended up buying a new sensor on ebay for $45 shipped.... worked great! Its a very common problem on these trucks.

They scanned mine for free.... just pretend you want to get it fixed but go towards the end of the day and tell them you only want it scanned. I did this twice at 2 different caddy dealerships (first time was for a suspension problem).... worked both times, if not.... it should only be a 1/2 hr labor (it literally takes 5 mins, they did it in front of me).

    Re: Service airbag..GRRR

I had the dealer scan it to confirm that the sensor was bad, then I replaced them both myself. They are a bit of a pain to replace, but it was a easy fix!

I found a local shop here in socal that will scan it for $90, bad thing is they only open M-F.

Caddydaddy, where is the sensors located? Can you post a quick picture?

Not the best picture(s), but the installation procedures mention the radiator support as a mounting position.

    Hope this helps.

with a ratcheting 10mm, it only takes 4-5 mins to take it off and put a new one on.... nothing to take off, just crawl under the car and take it out, simple.

    Re: Service airbag..GRRR

I had that light come on on my truck. I brought it to one shop, they said they scanned the computer and it was a bad "hook flash sensor" or something like that. Its in the steering wheel and keeps electrical contact when your turning the wheel. It was $200-300 part and 3 hours. I didn't want to spend that so I drove it for a year.

I took it to another shop. They did a little investigation and found out it's a bad connection by the drivers feet. It's a common problem, a little moisture gets into it, it corrodes and throws the code. You can either get a several hundred dollar replacement part, OR you can do what the shop did and just cut out the connection and solder/connect the wire back.
