    Escalade steering problem?

Hi everyone. I have a 03 Escalde EXT with about 15,000 miles on it. I also have 24's.

Ive been having a problem with steering for about the last 5k miles. It seams when I hit a bump or when the road is uneven, it pulls way to the side. When on un even road even for a second it will make the truck drift way to the side and you have to jerk the steering wheel fast or your going to go off the road.
I assumed it was just because of the 24's and I would have to live with the road drift as long as I had them on. Does anyones else truck do this with 24's?

But last night I noticed that I can move the steering wheel back and forth about an inch to each side before it seams to "catch" the steering and move the wheels. I'm pretty sure this would cause me to not be able to control road drift very wheel as the wheels would be able to move freely a small amount, kind of like hitting a bump while not holding the steering wheel. Does anyone elses wheel move back and forth like this? Maybe something is wrong?

    Thanks
    Will

sounds like bad ball joints. i don't know if the 24s have anything to do with it, but i'd have your ball joints (i think that's what they're called) checked.

I agree 100% with T_Dogg8. After they check the ball joints, and replace if necessary, get an alignment. I had a similar problem when turning my wheel to the right in reverse, the left front wheel would stop moving and there would be this extremely loud popping noise. Changed the ball joint, aligned it, and no more noise, and wonderful steering.

Will, larger tires will "roam" on certain roads and will give you a pulling action, and as for your steering you may want to have someone look at your steering, I have a customer with an 02' with 28,000 miles that needed his steering rack replaced, the dealer would not cover it under warranty because of the size of the wheels, he has 24's.

My Mr. Lucky came with 22's. It was pulling to the left severly when I braked. Caddy dealer did general alignment . Still pulled to the left. Then I took it back and they did I guess a manual alignment and everything is working great I also made them rotate the tires.

Thanks for the info everyone. I called my caddilac dealer today and they said they can't do alignments on cars with rims over 20 inches. I'll see if I can find a good place to do it tomorrow and post back here so anyone else can use this for future reference.

Thats B.S. Lou Ehlers Caddy in Los Angeles could care less if I had 22's or 24's. I have 22's. They just wanted me to be happy. If you are in Los Angeles area take your chariot to them. Only deal with Bill Spencer he's and awesome guy . He was my service manager for my little Mazda MX3 at Culver City Mazda way back when. Good luck.
    Peace
