02 Ext idle drops to 300 at times

I would like it to stay at 500. But sometimes when i first start it up and back out of the drive way (or pull ahead from a parking spot) it kinda jerks cuz it drops down to 300 rpm and then back to 500. What would cause this?

There is a TSB out for this. Go to your local Cadillac dealer and have them re-flash the ECM with the updated program from GM. Mine did this as well until it was re-flashed and now it idles and drives great.

The beginnings of a coked up Throttle Body could cause these symptoms. Mine use to do the same thing but with more frequency. It would dip down to 300 and then back up. For $5 and 15 minutes you could clean the TB and see if that's the fix

The dealer mentioned that could have been the problem as well with mine, but when they looked at the throttle body for any kind of build up, they did find any.

i get the same problem every once in a while. it's not too often, so it must be just the begining.

When I first cleaned mine it too looked pretty clean but once I finished it ran like a champ. Give it a try. The worst that could happen is that you now have a clean TB. Just make sure you get a TB cleaner that's safe for all coatings. You have a Teflon coating that's sensitive to harsh cleaners like carb cleaner. Any auto store carries TB cleaner for all surfaces. Good luck.
