Got my long tube headers and underdrive pulley

Remove this ad
Ordered a set of pacesetter ceramic coated long tube headers and a powerbond under drive pulley thursday at 4:30 pm and they were at my door at 10:30 am the next day.
Installed the headers today, didn't order the Y pipe since my LQ9 ESV comes with the dual pipes all the way to the muffler. For now i'm just gonna run a couple of 3" to 2.5" reducers and fab it up to run the stock pipes. Gonna measure everything up and go full custom set up after i put the cam in and decide if i'm gonna keep the stock muffler or not.
Will p[ost some pics tomorrow.

Re: Got my long tube headers and underdrive pulley

Just finished up will post pics and video later tonight. Going to eat with the parents now. All i bought for the Y pipe was two reducers for like 5 bucks. Didn't have to do alot of chopping of the stock Y pipe either.

"emissions" in NY state is only for 0bd1 and prior cars (1995 and lower) .... As long as you dont have a check engine light or stored code, your truck will pass... you may have to de-foul an O2 sensor to trick the sensor, but i would even doubt that needs to be done!

ObdII cars, etc as you said cant have a check engine light on, the I/M status monitors from what I've been told have to be active and in perimeters. It's do-able, On my 97 Z/28 I had no cats and straight pipe to a hooker muffler. I had those things for the O2's that told the ECM the specs were in range so no codes came up.

I guess we're good to go up here in NY then.

I would LOVE some long tubes, I bet they are gonna sound bad-ass on that 6.0L

Video's are up loading now. It's taking forever.
Install wasn't bad. All i really had to do was drop the tranny cross member and remove the engine covers. The headers did get scratched up a bit having to snake them up from underneath but it wasn't too bad. The driver side is a little close to the front DS but it had a good 1/2" clearance. Only thing is that no one makes replacement pipes to bolt up to your stock cat back. Everyone sels a Y pipe but the 6.0 motor has two individual pipes going back to the muffler. so i rigged up a temporary set up untill i decide what the rest of my exhaust is going to consist of.
OBX makes a whole SS kit with the two individual pipes but theyre headers look ugly (design wise) and the collectors are only 2.5". Pacesetters are 3" collectors. Also Pacesetters are ceramic coated and will keep under hood temps down better than SS headers. BUT if you live up north i would recommend SS headers or if your big $$ coated SS headers.
It is actually VERY quiet. Only a slightly deeper rumble than before at idle. Inside you can not even tell a difference, it is still extremely quiet. Under the hood is a little noisier but the average person wouldn't notice it.
I heard like something was rubbing at first start up but then it went away.
Driving around: regular off the light driving feels the same but i do feel like it needs less pedal to stay cruising. WOT, down low feels the same mid and high end feel a lot smoother and like the truck is actually lighter. Picks up very good. You can barely hear the exhaust at all, you can actually hear the intake over the exhaust if anything. Although i did romp on it next to a wall and it sounded
Any other questions, just ask.

Headers were like $380 shipped and i spent like $5 for two pieces of 3" I.D. pipe. Install took about 3 hours start to finish including modding the pipes. But I've done this a few times.
Videos were taking forever to upload, had to come to school. Will try again here shortly.
