Weird issue on a 2004 EXT, any ideas?

My father's 2004 EXT has a REALLY weird issue. After dirivng for about 1 1/2 hrs, the truck starts bucking, and throws error codes that the front and rear banks are running lean. The dealership got it, said there was some form of error in the original programming that over time became worse and worse and eventually caused this. Ok, slightly weird, but possible given the world of electronics. So, he takes a trip to Montreal, and 1 1/2 hrs into the trip, it starts doing the same thing AGAIN. If he stops for 10 mins, it will go away for a slight while, maybe 30-45 mins and then start again. So, it seems related to heat, in some form or another. Any ideas?

I had a couple of cars that di that. It was the vent to the gas tank. Next time it happens, try opening the gas cap and see if air sucks in. Yhe vent on the cap may be plugged. Try a new gas cap.

I have heard Canadian fuel is hydrgenated and "fluffed" with ethanol- the octane rating is good for about 15 days and is unstable.

"hydrogenated" = fluffed for volume=think COCA COLA, kind of like adding water.

Although we travel to Canada every once in a while, this problem started when he hadn't been there for several months, and clearly had U.S. gas in the truck; however, that is very interesting.

I've heard of cars throwing error codes up if the gas cap isn't on tight enough, but haven't heard of it on a sealed cap. It happened to me once. I suppose anything's possible. Too damn many sensors.

Well my father is coming home today so he will have an 8 hr drive. If it happens again, because it only happens after 1 1/2 hrs or longer, he will open the gas tank cap and see what happens.

I live in Canada and therefore use Canadian fuel everyday... no problems at all. Better beer and better gas too??
