Question which xenon kit for fogs on 03 EXT???

Remove this ad
I own a 2003 ext.... I want to upgrade the fog lights with a xenon ballast kit... which bulb intensity would match the factory xenon headlights on my truck... 8000k.. 10000k etc??? some shop had quoted me 500.00 .. I was about to laugh in his face because I had done the same thing on my expedition for a fraction of the cost... so anyways any help would be greatly appreciated..

Re: which xenon kit for fogs on 03 EXT???

I woulda told him to find another sucker for $500 and laughed in his face...hahahaha $500! I'd go with 6000k for the fogs if you have factory HID's(i think they're 4300k)

Re: which xenon kit for fogs on 03 EXT???

i did some research and I think I answered my own question... I believe the factory halogen foglight bulb size is an 893... so I did some searches on ebay and I found a couple kits for barely 100.00!!?? they dont really specify if they are made in china and I have been warned before about buying items made in china .... they specify that they also dont produce a lot of heat so I suppose the foglight housing should be safe.... if anyone else has found anything to use for this application please let me know..

Factory HID's are 4300k color/temp, this offers the most lightout of any HID bulbs.

I installed the Pilot Brand 8000K HID (BULBS) on my low beams...

and I also bought the Pilot (Plug and Play Foglight Kit) 8000k as well from ebay...

They both match PERFECTLY and looks VERY nice at night and is bright as hell!

Re: which xenon kit for fogs on 03 EXT???

That looks nice, but won't that be blinding oncoming traffic? I dislike the yellow fog lights but I am concerned with flooding the HID fog all over the place.

Re: which xenon kit for fogs on 03 EXT???

Thanks, and no it doesnt blind oncoming traffic. I ADJUSTED it to aim it down, so that it wont blind oncoming traffic!

It looks bright in the picture, because if you look closely, you can see that my driveway is angled/ slanted up. So that it makes my front end of my truck look like its going uphill, if you understand what i'm saying.

Anyways, I went with 8000K because I like the more bluish look. Its up to you what you want to go with, but 4300K is stock I believe.

Here is a thread I posted if you want to see the 4300K and 8000K side by side.

Re: which xenon kit for fogs on 03 EXT???

Forgive my ignorance but how do you adjust the foglight to aim lower? I thought only the headlamps allow you to do that but the foglights too? Is there a lever somewhere?

If I can remember correctly, if you look underneath the foglight, there is a knob. You just turn the knob by your fingers either clockwise or counter-clockwise, and it will shift the foglight to your needs.

Re: which xenon kit for fogs on 03 EXT???

DLE - thank you so much for the Xenon info! I have been looking for this info for quite some time. I had silverstar's in my 2005 fog lights, I think the heat made one of the lenses pop off and of course Cadillac will not warranty it. I purchased a lens on Ebay and awaiting it's arrival. I am going to buy the Pilot's 4300K lights and install them so they match my factory Xenon lights.

I will post pix when I am finished.

Just a heads up, that I changed my stock h.i.d. low beams (philips bulbs) to (Pilot bulbs)!

The STOCK HID bulbs I believe are PHILIPS (NOT PILOT)..

So if you can, try finding the 4300K Philips to have a complete match.

I am unsure of how the Philips low beams will match with Pilot Fogs. See what i'm saying?

Anyways, just make sure for your foglight to get the "Plug and Play" H.I.D. kit which comes with the Ballast. It will have less heat, so it wont melt anything.
