Slow speed driveline slop FIX

Remove this ad
My '03 had a little driveline slop at very slow speed - when coasting as when you make a slow turn from one street to another. It felt like the torque converter was slowing too much and then had to rev some or like the trans was free wheeling then taking up slop as you begin to apply gas pedal, resulting in a driveline clunk. I have read here about others with the same issue. I always got back on the gas pedal very gently to avoid the clunk or jerk as much as possible. I also think I remember seeing a TSB on this subject.
I mentioned this to an excellent service manager at my dealer and they loaded all existing ECM updates - kind of shotgun approach. Well one of those ECM updates must have had some transmission programing magic. I can't believe the difference in shift smoothness, especially in the condition above - no more clunk or jerk at slow speed when you let off the gas, then go again. Cost was only a few bucks and again, I can't believe the improvement.

Re: Slow speed driveline slop FIX

Thanks for the tip. I have the same problem. I'll have to get this done next time I'm at the dealer.

Re: Slow speed driveline slop FIX

luxurylife33,

I don't think my dealer charged me anything but they were doing a trans fluid change which they over charge for. It only takes a few minutes to down ECU upgrades so I doubt it would cost much - the book may specify a flat rate but it shouldn't be any more than an hour at most, hopefully less?
