IMO good idea.
Gas saver. Yes
More HP. Yes
Never done it on an '02 lade, but on many older Chevy's, 68 Camaro RS, 67 Chevelle SS, that I built.

Don't know if it would make any difference or not, it should help, I used them before but it was mostly for better air flow over the radiator
