Rear Wheel RUBBING NOISE

Remove this ad
-2004 Cadillac Escalade

At speeds over 30ish, i am getting this super annoying rubbing noise from, what sounds like, the right rear quarters. You can only hear it if you are riding in the middle or back seats. The stock wheels have been replaced by 22" Vogue rims. Looking at them from the front of the car, they are a lot wider than the original ones. Could this be a problem? Also, when I took it in to be serviced, they said that the REAR breaks are worn 80%. Could this cause the noise? PLEASE help me. It is extremely annoying, and I feel like something is wrong. Thanks!

Re: Rear Wheel RUBBING NOISE

Tough to tell without hearing the noise, you maybe hearing the rear low brake pad sensors that will rub the rotor when they get low enough. Has the noise been there since the wheels were installed?

Re: Rear Wheel RUBBING NOISE

Well, I purchased the car with the rims already installed. I can't exactly remember if it made the noise when I got it. The brake sensors is a big possibility, as i think Firestone mentioned that when I had an inspection, but i didn't want to go replacing unneccessary parts. It's strange to me how the front brakes are worn 35%, while the rears are worn 80%, since the most pressure is on the fronts. Strange. Thank for your suggestion.

Re: Rear Wheel RUBBING NOISE

Several owners reported going thru rear pads before fronts, which yes is strange.

Re: Rear Wheel RUBBING NOISE

I have the ESV and my truck was at the dealership for a week before they figured out where the rubbing noise on the back of my truck was coming from. I have 24 inch wheels on it as well. They finally found it, it was my rear wheel bearing or axle bearings that were making a rubbing sound when I sped up just as you are hearing. All this after they rebuilt my front diff new u joint rebuilt the rear diff, new front hub bearings new rear brake shoes and pads and rotors. It was almost 7 K in work and they couldnt find the noise until all of that was fixed then they finally found it. Thank God For Warranties!

Re: Rear Wheel RUBBING NOISE

as far as rear brakes worn first it seems you are not the first owner... that said perhaps the fronts have already been replaced once?
