Question 05 Escalade 5.3?

Remove this ad
I am normally on the STS forum. Hi everyone.

Did the 2WD Escalade still offer the 5.3 in 2005? Cadillac.com was not clear. It said only the 6.0 was offered but then it said the Escalade either had 295hp or 345. I assume the 6.0 did not have 2 difference power rating options.

Re: 05 Escalade 5.3?

The sluggish 5.3L was dropped due to poor sales and the 2WD began using the same 6.0L engine configuration as the AWD model. These can be a great bargain used because they are less desirable than the AWD model, but if you dont need the AWD, you no longer have to sacrifice engine power to go without.

Re: 05 Escalade 5.3?

I was having an argument with a friend about what engine was offered in 2005.
Was the 5.3 still offered in 2005? I know it was in 2004. However, Cadillac.com was not clear if it was offered in 2005.

Re: 05 Escalade 5.3?

Actually, the 5.3L came standard on all 2wd 2005's UNTIL they did a late intro and switched over to the 6.0L in the middle of the model year, without any real announcement about doing it. Before then, all '02-04s were 5.3L's and after, all '06s were 6.0L's.

It's easy to get confused, but you can definitely find 2wd 2005's out there with either engine. Here's just a couple examples:

A 5.3L 2wd 2005 ("T" vin 8th digit):

And a 6.0L 2wd 2005 ("N" vin 8th digit):

That is correct. It was a mid-year changeover and I do not believe the retail sales price of the truck was affected.

Yeah, up there, you'd be hard pressed to, but go a few states lower, and there's a plethora of them--very much so a climate factor. There'd be even more, if they offered the EXT and ESV in 2wd models, which is something I and others I know have always wished they would.

Just depends on your uses.

I never thought of that because getting AWD is a no brainer up here. I wonder why they do not offer 2wd Esv's and Ext's... Because their Chevrolet and GMC countparts all come in 2wd standard (I believe)...

Agreed, and I never really knew why either--down south, they'd sell a ton. Only thing I could ever think of is that the ESV and EXT aren't their volume models, and they'd rather just keep the complexity of either down to a minimum.

The same was true for the GMC Denali line, which typically mirrored the Escalade, until they started offering a 2wd Denali pickup and, though it's never been intro'd, had said they'd offer a 2wd Denali and Denali XL SUV in the early materials. That has yet to materialize, but hopefully it will in time.

Just not everyone wants the extra AWD componentry weight or complexity day in and day out, or has any use for it whatsoever, so it's good to give a choice--and at least they do on the "bread and butter" regular Escalade.
