i think i might be paranoid

Remove this ad
last night i was driving like 10/15 mph in a parking lot and i ran over this bad pothole.... thank god i was not going faster but i am paranoid now that i might have damaged the truck somehow...

i checked the wheels (18" rims) - they look fine... it appears to be driving fine... would i know it if somehow messed something up??? would it be obvious???? is it possible at that speed?? it wasn't the worst pothole, but it was a pretty bad one...

thanks

Re: i think i might be paranoid

You "could" have knocked out your alignment slightly, but at that speed probably not. The 18" wheels are pretty forgiving, of couse that is not true with 22" and larger wheels. You could always go and have the front end and alignment checked, they will not usually charge much if they don't have to adjust anything.

i will try that... thanks..... so basically all i could have messed up is the alignment??? not the wheels, or the tires, or other gears or joints underneath somewhere?????

you read all these horror stories on here about running over potholes, etc... makes me paranoid....

Re: i think i might be paranoid

If you can't feel or hear anything, why the heck are you automatically assuming something is wrong? I understand being paranoid about these things, but it usually only starts AFTER you notice it's now vibrating or pulling, etc.

Seems like you're fine, as there's no symptoms you mentioned.

Re: i think i might be paranoid

If you notice a vibration, a couple of things could have happened, one being tire belt separation, this is when the steel belts inside the tire get knocked out of alignment,(separated amongst themselves) during impact and realign off balance once the come back together, I've seen it alot here in Vegas, the other could be from a bent rim, I highly doubt that you incurred any damage at that speed, but I bet it felt like you ran over a 7 inch curb when you hit. Your truch should be just fine. While driving down the road at approximately 35 mph, let go of the steering wheel, your vehicle should pull very slightly to the right at approximately a distance of 35 to 40 yards. This would be due to the "crown" on the road unless your road crowns to the center. The crown is for water runoff so it won't pool in the center of the highway and flood the road causing a hydroslide. FYI.

Re: i think i might be paranoid

thanks everyone.. i know i am probably being paranoid but you read so many horror stories about potholes with the '07, usually on larger wheels.. the pothole was like maybe a foot deep by maybe 2-3 feet long..... it felt bad to hit it, even though i was going slow in a parking lot.. just hate running over those things and usually i see them.. then i get paranoid that i messed something up.. will test the truck while driving and see if it drives normal/ straight while removing my hands from the wheel.. it seems like that is the best way to verify that everything is ok..

thanks again..
