I hated being in parking lots and have people look and say "cool looking Jeep" then I'm trying to pull in a spot and the noises coming from my car are audible in the next county! LOL |

The original tires that were on was the 305/45/22. It had rubbing issues in the front tires when turning at the most extreme left or right, and more often when turning in reverse.
This caused the inner fender walls to wear down all they way through where the tire rubbed.
Fortunately, the tires were in need of replacement, so I went with 305/40/22. Now I have no issues or problems whatsoever. |

Do you still have good ride quality with the 305/40's? Also in looking at rims I've seen 2 I really like so far and in reading the specs, one has an offset of 12mm and the other 25mm, now what does this mean exactly and how will that now possibly affect tire rubbing? Thanks |

As for the offset, it will make a big difference to the fitment on your lade. The offset is the distance from the face of wheel, (where it mounts to the hub of the car) to the inner side of the rim. A positive offset means that the tire profile is positioned more into the car. A smaller offset or negative offset will position the tire outwards (deep dish is what they use to call them).
With a smaller offset, you will risk rubbing in both front and back depending on the amount. For the front, you may expect to rub when turning. For the back, you may rub along the top of the fender well if you are lowered or when you hit a big bump.
Most smaller wheel shops will let you try on both sizes to make sure that it fits correctly, and to keep your business. I noticed some of the bigger shops do not test fit them, and they give you a story of why their recommendations are your only option.
Good luck! |

As the number gets bigger, say from 12 to 20mm, the wheel moves out as long as wheel width didnt change. I have 22x10 with 20mm offset and 305/45/22s and they rub. 305/40/22s wont rub. i like the ride w/ 45 series better (and better fender filling). I resolved 95% of the rub with a little cut to the lower front edge of the outer fender and some zip ties to the inner fender. the remaining occasional rub is no trouble to me and I am pretty particular w/ perfection. On a 10" wheel I would go w/ 20mm. Less and it rubs the inside more, greater and it rubs the outside. |

In which, the smaller the offset, the further out the wheel moves, or as I also mentioned, a negative offset will also do the same, when comparing to a positive offset.
Your comment is true if he were comparing only negative offsets.
Does your wheels have a positive 20mm offset or a negative one? | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
