Anyone carry a gun in their 'Lade?

Remove this ad
First of all, let me say that I have a concealed carry permit for my state, have had quite a bit of training in using firearms for self defense, and am only referring to legally-owned firearms intended for legal purposes.

OK, now that that's over....

I sometimes keep a gun in the car, and sometimes need to leave a gun in the car if I'm going into a place that I'm not legally allowed to carry (post office, bar, etc.). In my old car I had a trunk, and I would just discretely take off my gun and holster in the front seat, wrap it in a jacket or shirt, and stick it in the trunk. Obviously there is no trunk now, so where do I put it?

Yesterday I had this happen, and was very surprised to find that there's not even any room under the front driver's seat (haven't checked any others) as that's been a standy location for me if I'm only going to be away from the car for a couple of minutes.

Any other gun owners/carriers with suggestions?

This one is nice because you don't need a key. I've seem them and they are good quality:

This one is a less expensive sollution:

I'm sure you can find something similar on the net if you shop around.

Re: Anyone carry a gun in their 'Lade?

I would think someone as trained as yourself would not make the mistake of announcing it on a public bulletin board. Its bad enough telling people you carry, but to tell everyone you leave it unattended in an auto is not a good thing to do.

I have a permit to carry as well, I do not leave the gun in my truck for any reason, just not safe to do.

How do you go about connecting a post or person posting with a specific vehicle? Am I missing something here?

Along with not bringing one into a Bank or Bar etc..
here in Massachusetts it's also illegal to leave a firearm in a vehicle.

Re: Anyone carry a gun in their 'Lade?

I would try to find something that you can mount under your rear seat and anchor to the floor. I would check to see what is legal and not legal as far as locked compartments in your state. I would say that it is much safer to ask your local police department than a forums board though.

Re: Anyone carry a gun in their 'Lade?

I'm not too concerned with someone reading my post here and using it to figure out that I have a gun in the car and using that information to track down my car in the right place and time to steal a gun out of it.

I know of quite a few different products taht are made for securing various things, firearms included, in vehicles, but I was hoping to get some feedback here from people that actually do it.

I typically carry a fullsize 1911 with 5" barrel.

The thought that I now drive a more theft-prone vehicle has crossed my mind, and generally I won't leave guns in the car if I can plan ahead, but if I need to go to the post office in the middle of the day, or if I join some friends for a drink after work the options are either break the law or leave it in the car.

Re: Anyone carry a gun in their 'Lade?

Is this idea totally dumb? What about keeping it in the back seat console cupholders? I don't have one for carrying, but always thought if I did that the drop down cupholders compartment would be great. I can reach it from the front seat (I have an EXT but I assume all the models have this), and it seems if someone was going to break in, they'd check out the center console, the glove box, and the rear seat armrest compartment, and probably under the seats. But would they bother with the cupholder door?

Re: Anyone carry a gun in their 'Lade?

Always with permit
(cant really say about the hidden ones or two)

i was told you can carry the gun in the glove box and the clip anywhere other than the glove box since SUV and Full size SUV's dont have trunks

I'll have to look there. At the very least it might work for a small gun. The only thing I'd have to be mindful of is taking it out so that my girlfriend's kid doesn't find it.

Re: Anyone carry a gun in their 'Lade?

I'd like to make a request as a technician.
I don't have a problem with people owning or carrying guns, but when you bring your car/SUV in for service please remove all your firearms.
First of all, if you have a weapon hidden in the vehicle and I get pulled over you should understand that I don't have a permit to carry a concealed weapon. If an officer should decide to search your vehicle while I am operating it..... well I am sure you can do the math.
Plus, if you want to carry a weapon that is fine, but please don't leave it loaded and pointing at me.

I recently was driving a car for a customer trying to isolate a noise from the rear, I opened the trunk to inspect for any objects that might be causing it and found a loaded 44 semi-automatic pistol with a full mag and one in the pipe pointed right at my spine as I sat in the driver's seat.
Even though the safety was on, I was really pissed.
I wish I could say that was the first time I investigated a rattle to find a loaded gun pointed directly at my person.

Not to mention the fact that it is just retarded to leave something worth that much money laying in your car, or the fact that anyone in the dealership that found the weapon was there could have stolen it (not that any of our guys would, but just speaking as a representative of all the thieves most people paint us to be) and done God knows what with it, or even better, used it for a while and then put it back in YOUR trunk.

As for concealing weapons in an Escalade, I can't think of many places that would be "good" and as mentioned, it sounds kind of scary anyway. It is not like people don't steal Escalades and now you give them a truck and a gun.

Just a thought... or two.
Thanks.
