Cadillac ELR Forum Discussion, Level 2 charger installation in Current Cadillac Vehicle Discussion; Hello. New owner here. Has anyone had their level 2 charger installation done yet? Does Cadillac provide a branded unit ...
Congratulation, boomer67! Glad to hear the ELR is exceeding your expectations.
I was contacted by Bosch for the intial evaluation about two weeks after I took delivery of my ELR. The contracted electrician has since been out, submitted a quote to Bosch, and now we're just waiting for the charger to arrive so it can be installed. I was told the chager would be Cadillac-branded hardware: http://insideevs.com/wp-content/uplo...lr-charger.jpg
If I ever move to LA (and I'm working on it, especially after this last winter which has still not ended) I'd have an electric car. Talked to a guy in LA who was driving a Leaf. He had 1,000 miles on it and said he has spent $0 on electricity. There are free charging stations all around the city. How great it must be to drive for free! I guess the taxes make it not so free, but the weather is great.
It is definitely a Cadillac branded unit. Checked out the system installed in our first ELR owner's home, and it's very clean. Exact same unit shown in the video above, same as we have here at the dealership.
Here in Texas I registered for an energy plan that gives me free electricity between 10 pm and 6 am every day. I make sure that the ELR charging is done during that time and, in effect, do not pay anything for the juice going into the car. There is a ceiling on the plan but it is high enough to avoid overages during the hotter months in Texas.
Mightyratz, I called the ELR concierge from my ELR, asked about the process. They took my info and within a day I was contacted by Bosch in Illinois and then a certified Bosch electrician here in Houston. Two days later the electrician was at the house and did his appraisal. Three or four days I received an email from Bosch with the estimated cost. I agreed with the cost and assessment, and a week later the electrician came out and installed the charger. Took 30 minutes, and was cost free to me. A full charge takes between 4.5 and 5 hours. And recently full charges have been resulting in 45-46 miles, significantly more than the 38 I expected. The process was a breeze.
The ELR Concierge Team and Bosch are great... I cant BEG my electrician to do the job (which I believe he did/will submit a ridiculous quote for)... Its been over three weeks and I had to finally request a new installer...
The ELR Concierge Team were quick in putting me in contact with Bosch, but unfortunately Bosch dropped the ball with me. The Bosch representative contacted me and took all my information, but I never heard back from them. I called them yesterday (9-8-14) after a month had passed, but all I was able to leave was a voicemail. No return call, so called again this afternoon and finally was able to speak with a live person. After being bounced around among several people, I finally found the right person. I basically was told an electrician had not been assigned. Within 30 minutes I was telephoned back with an electricians name and also emailed the same information. I was told I would be contacted by the electrician within 24-48 hours. I'm hoping the process goes smoother now. Anxious to get the charger installed.
