Re: Elr to be rear drive ?

RWD Driveshaft + Moving perfectly balanced battery + Making small "jump seats" for rear seating = NO DEAL for me!

If this becomes a reality consider my pre-order in the dumpster. Why make a car less efficient just to get drive power to the rear wheels? Isn't there enough Caddy's already that have this and trying to incorporate this would be a huge FUBAR for this car that has it's drivetrain already naturally set for the front wheels.

BIG mistake GM, don't do it as the results are not worth the effort and loss.

No it most likely will not be rear-wheel since the ELR will be based on the next generation Chevy Volt and no info or specs have been released on the next generation Volt . The only way the ELR will be rear-wheel drive is if the next Volt is rear-wheel drive Since it wouldn't make sense from a financial standpoint to have a front-wheel drive Volt and then build a rear-wheel drive Caddy that's based on it . The amount of money required to make the Volts front-wheel drive layout would be ridicules .

I heard that the powertain/electric tech would be voltec 1.5 not based on the volt platform totally

Re: Elr to be rear drive ?

I hope it stays FWD. I don't see the advantages to offset all the headache$ of doing this so hopefully it was just a rumor

I will keep my Volt (loaded, HID, 100% LED Int/Ext) for my G/F as I absolutely love the car, just want the Caddy-ish touch!

Yeah the Volt is simply awesome in every aspect, naysayers are basically ignorant pathetic people who speak out of their arse! lol.
...can't wait to get a hold of the same platform w/ the ELR! I really can't take my eyes off the design I always buy Black vehicles but that charcoal gray is getting some serious aesthetic points.... sweeeeet!

If they do Voltec on Alpha, that platform is the platform of the GODS. And every Cadillac besides Omega. I don't think it would be RWD... It'd make more marketing sense, I guess, but I'd rather they solve the 0-60 time problem, first.

I sold my CTS-V to buy my Red Tincoat Volt. They wife has a Diamond White Volt 2011. We charge them off our Grid tie Solar, nothing could be better than Driving for Free with NO OPEC Fee!

Re: Elr to be rear drive ?

How can it be rear-wheel drive? As the drive shaft tunnel is taken up by the T-shaped battery, there isn't any room for a driveshaft to connect the CS high torque mode to the rear wheels. If the ELR is rear wheel drive, the electric motor would need to be located in each wheel, which is a lot of unsprung weight to control. Also, if the ELR is rear-wheel drive and a driveshaft doesn't fit, the car would be a straight series hybrid (like a diesel/electric locomotive), which has lower acceleration and fuel efficiency than the Voltec design.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt that I am.

What about reversing it so that the battery is in front of the rear mounted motor? No need for a driveshaft.

And there would be no trunk or legroom for the backseats . The recent press release for the ELR said that it would be based on the next generation Volt . I've never heard anything about the next generation Volt being rear-wheel drive . Why does this rumor persist since why would Chevy completely change the next generation Volt and make it a completely different car by making it rear-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive like the current car ? Why would the next generation Volt be based on the Omega or Alpha platform ? This is preposterous and absurd . Where does the idea of the next generation Volt being based on a rear-wheel platform come from . Come on people the next Volt will not be a completely different type of car than the current one it makes no financial sense . What is so wrong with the current generation Volt that people want the next Volt to be a completely different car ? I drive a Volt during the week and I love it . I can't wait for the ELR to come out so that I can have a next generation Volt but with Cadillac luxury and comfort . There is nothing wrong with the Volt so stop complaining . Why don't you go drive a Volt before you open your mouths since most of you have apparently never driven one before . The Volt is great .

Couldn't have said it any better studio caddi...
I'm excited to get my ELR and as soon as my DP goes in I will be geek'n everyday I have to wait for my order to be rail-car'd and unloaded at my dealer. I usually always purchase Black but that dark charcoal gray is pretty sharp.... decisions!
