Does anybody know the percentage of New Cadillac sales made up of DTS's?
I used to post quite a bit on the SRX forum until I just gave up and admitted to myself that buying it was a mistake and grousing only made things worse.
Now that I have a 2006 performance level DTS and my wife is delighted with her 2006 CTS sports edition my intrest in the site has been rekindled and I have started monitoring the site again. I am surprised at the lack of activity on this particular forum. Is that because the percentage of DTS sales is low and thus there aren't all that many owners, or because the vehicle is so good that there is less bitching, or because it isn't customized for appearance or performance all that much or the average owner is too old and Internet illerate to post?
The age thing gains some leverage when you look at all of the intelligence on the can and realize there is no bluetooth capability. I know 2 people in their 70s who have full featured Cadillacs and they haven't a clue as to how to use adaptive CC or the Nav system and they wouldn't touch a computer on a bet.
According to the data at The Automotive News, sales look like this:
January 1 through August 31, 2006.
Total Cadillac sales were 149,780 (down from about 166,000 in the same period last year.)
DTS sales 2006 year to date are 38,735. Since it is a new model there is no year to year comparison.
By contrast. The next biggest seller is the CTS at 38,947. That makes CTS Cadillacs biggest seller, but only by a hair. This is significant because the CTS is near the end of its 5th year on the market and sales are still strong. In fact sales rose every year since its introduction in 2002 until now. It will be replaced next fall with an all new model.
The DTS will soldier on until 2009-2010 until its replaced, and probably won't see any big changes untill then.
It should also be noted that the DTS is Cadillacs largest fleet sales vehicle. And many of those sales were to Avis, etc.
