    Certain 06-11 DTS Recall?

Did anyone else see the recall today that included certain 06-11 DTS'? Looks like they hit the lurcerne and the older Deville's too. My Cadillac Homepage lists 0 recalls for my 07 when I just checked it.

Did ya read the recall? I gather the key blank has a rectangular opening to attach to a key chain and it needs to be a round centered hole to prevent stress on the ignition...unless I got it wrong. I googled it.

Everyone who owns a DTS is impacted. Crazy.

There's a video on YouTube that shows you the problem: http://youtu.be/BJ7T8KeNIJ4

Makes sense that the same ignition switch is used across the board....

This could have an impact on millions of other cars too: I just checked my wife's Mercedes key and it has the same rectangular opening as on our DTSs.

Hard to believe I have been driving my DTS for 3 years now and had no problems with the ignition switch...probably pass on the recall, more trouble than its worth.
Doesn't look like an easy fix and car will be in the shop for a day or two.

I just did the YouTube check, giving the fob a good tug. The key moved a bit, but did not come out of the ON position.

How so? It's the key. They'll either fix the one you have or give you a new one.

To get at the ignition switch requires the dealership to pull apart the steering column. I'm thinking my car is almost 9 years old now if it was going to happen it would have already.

    Re: Certain 06-11 DTS Recall?

the official recall has not yet been released but the news reports are saying that the service procedure will go something like this:
Owners of cars included in the Cobalt recall must get the ignition switch replaced, but those affected by Monday's recall don't have to. Instead, GM dealerships will add an insert to the key that closes the slot and leaves only a small hole where a key ring can be attached.

Why wouldn't GM just replace the whole key rather than an insert...will the insert still allow keys and a Fob to be attached though???

I think the real problem is people having a bowling ball for a keychain! For the most part the fob and a key does not weigh enough to switch the car off. Unless the switch is BADLY worn.

That was what I thought the recall said, was an insert....glad of that, a clever monkey could fix their own....I do remember when GM drivers [in the 60"s] would pull on their key to loosen it to come out of the ignition while the car was running.....
