Best phone mount for a 2010 DTS?

My wife hates my homemade cell phone mount, even though it works just fine in my opinion (affixes to the dash using the tiny space between the fake wood panel and the plastic top dash). Must be the half roll of duct tape that holds it all together and the roll of pennies used as a counterbalance. She's insisting that I get something more spiffy, but I can't believe that there is a phone mount out there that can hold its base to the pebbly, curving surface of the top dash in a 2010 DTS, at least not without drilling or using permanent (and disfiguring) glue. I don't want the phone on the windshield, and I'd rather not affix it to the A\C vents. Ideally it would be fairly close to eye level (about as high as the top of the steering wheel) and be able to swivel 90 degrees.

Any suggestions? What's worked well for forum members for a late model DTS?

    Thanks,

    Nick in Palm Springs

I use my iPhone as a traffic and navigation device. It's silly\foolish to live in Southern California and commute long distances without having current, up-to-the-minute road conditions displayed in front of you as you drive. A number of web-based services (e.g., Sigalert, Waze) will do that for you. I also use the phone for making phone calls, surprisingly enough. I find that having the phone roughly face level and running the audio via a cable to the sound system aux channel allows me to do fairly decent hand free calls, something required by law in California (my car doesn't have Bluetooth, just XM which I don't use). And I like easy access to the iPod portion of the phone, primarily for playing audio books to chew up the miles in my commute.

So perhaps I don't "need" a phone on my dash, but it makes my driving experience more pleasant and efficient.

That grip-go device deals with one end of the attachment problem, not the other end. That is, where do you attach the thing to the car. My Garmin GPS has a holder with a suction device. The problem is finding a flat spot in the interior to mount it. I'm with Nick: I don't want to attach it to the windshield. And just about everything else in the interior is curved.

I use Arkon brand mounts for my tablets. They're less than $30 shipped and work great and look good. The quality is good and they've proven to be fairly durable. I have them in 4 of my vehicles and have never had one break. They hold your device securely too.

I pulled back the carpeted trim that runs down the center console and used an existing bolt to secure the mount. I cut a small slot in the trim piece to fit the bracket through (even if you take it out, the area which I modified is always covered up by the seat). It doesn't interfere with the operation of the seat either.

If you don't have a center console, no modification of any sort is needed.

They have them in different lengths too.

They make them for smart phones too.
