    2006 DTS coolant change/flush ?

    Cadillac customer service,

I'm a new 2006 cadillac dts owner and my car has 98400 on the odometer. I would like to flush the coolant system and was wondering what would be the correct way of doing so. I have searched this forum for solid guidance but the suggestions are all over the place. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Cadillac DTS 2006 running hot sometime

Your post moved from a dead thread to your own question/thread.

If your coolant is presently clean and clear a simple drain and refill is all that's necessary. More in Cadillac Tech Tips.

"Cadillac Customer Care" is the place for GM warranty and dealership problems. They have no idea on specific maintenance or advice for your car. Thay CAN act in your behalf to set up dearership diagnosis and work.

Like Sub said... if it is pretty clean, drain and refill.
If you are worried that you didn't get enough out... drive it a week and then do it again.

    Re: 2006 DTS coolant change/flush ?

Here's one for you: 50/50 coolant pre-mix is a classic example of theft: It costs almost as much as 100% "raw coolant".

Coolant change: Buy 2 gallons of whatever coolant you like at the parts store. Detour past the supermarket and buy 2 gallons of distilled water. Go home and find a clean 2-quart pitcher. Pour 2 quarts of water into the pitcher. Refill the water jug with coolant. Pour the pitcher of water into the coolant jug. Repeat ................ you now have 4 gallons of 50/50 coolant and a clean pitcher.

A Northstar takes between 10 and 12 quarts of fill. Halfway up in the surge tank, cold. (NEVER check/adjust coolant level when warm or hot). You may need to add a bit after the system purges itself of trapped air (normal).

For grins and kicks, read the several cooling/fan/gauge sticky threads in the Engines; Northstar forum. Same for the entire Cadillac Technical Archive way way up ^^^ in the top black bar.

A little knowledge is a dangerous weapon ...........
