    Trunk won't open!

2009 DTS. Trunk won't open. Dash button doesn't do it. Key fob doesn't do it. Toggling the valet switch in the glove box doesn't do it.

When I use the key fob, I see the taillights flash but there isn't the usual clunk when the release pops. I even tried to pull up on the trunk while pushing the release button without luck.

How in the world do you get into the trunk when the remote release quits?

Great idea! I've never thought of that because the seats don't fold down! I forgot about that access point.

Open the access hole in the rear seat...
Use a flashlight and look for a "T" handle that is attached to a cord.
    That is the EMERGENCY RELEASE...
Reach thru and pull the "T" handle and the trunk will open.

    Re: Trunk won't open!

I was able to unbend a wire shirt hanger, reach in there, and thread it through an opening in the handle and gave it a pull. It was a pain to get a hold of handle and have enough force to pull it open without the hanger simply unbending and sliding right off.
Anyways, the trunk actuator was dead. I switched it out with one from another DTS that I have to see if it was the actuator or wiring somewhere before the actuator. The swapped part worked so I ordered one via ebay for about $150 (Cadillac dealership wanted $251).

Easy part to replace. Three 10 mm bolts and one electrical connection.

Yes, simple swap. Total of about 10 minutes start to finish. I don't think this is a common part that fails though.

Andrew 224; I'm surprised that the actuator went bad so soon. Just curious, how long you had this DTS and with how many miles?

I've had the car just over a year. 61K miles on the clock.

Had the same problem. My trouble wasn't the actuator. The wire from the actuator to the fuse box under the back seat failed where the wire goes through the trunk hinge to the fuse box. Had to piece out the positive
    wire (white-tan).

    Re: Trunk won't open!

I spoke too soon. A few days after the swap, the trunk stopped working again. After further inspection, I found broken wires in the harness near a bend point. It was an obvious break. They must have been at the breaking point when I was connecting and unconnecting the electrical from the actuator and were making contact after I was messing with it but finally completely broke after a couple more opening and closings. Spliced them up and good as new. The old actuator works now. Bad initial diagnosis by me. Oh well, still cheaper than taking it in.
