    06 dts intermitant overheating

I have an 06 DTS that has just recently begun overheating. It happens about 5 minutes after first take off for a trip. Temp goes all the way to red an says pull over and stop. Before even getting stopped it starts dropping and doesn't happen again until trip is done and car cools down. But it happens every time I drive it after it is cooled down.

Check coolant level. Does the heater work?

Add coolant. There is most certainly a leak somewhere. Probably at the waterpump or in a hose.

This is a serious issue. The Northstar does the best job of dealing with heat than any other aluminum engine out there. But it is still aluminum. Do not fill or check coolant while hot!

Actually, after reading again, since it is not always a problem. Sounds like a bad thermostat that isn't opening itself up properly!

Coolant level remains fine. No signs of leaks. I thought thermostat also. Just wanted to check with someone more familiar. Once it happens and temp goes down it doesn't
