    Re: AM Radio Reception

The problem is not with your radio, it's with the AM band. Many AM stations have transmitters that aren't as powerful as their FM equivalents, plus the wave-length issue comes into play.

I can't get AM reception more than 100 kms (62 miles) from my favorite AM station, and it is one of the more powerful ones. Nothing wrong with the receiver, it's all to do with the transmitter.

I'm not so sure it isn't the radio or antenna because the AM reception I get in my Dodge pickup is just fine in this area. It does have an external antenna though.

I agree ii is not the AM transmitter. I have drove many GM cars with the same antenna system and they have great reception. My DTS has poor AM reception but I have window tint that's causing the problem.

BS.... On my 2006 Chevy I can pick up some of my local AM stations for 150 miles from home.
On the 2006 Caddy it has so much static, it is unbearable to try to listen to, even right here in town.

Is it the window tint? I do have window tint on my rear window but nowhere else. Is the antenna on the rear window or front windshield?

The top part of your rear window is part of the AM antenna system.

Thanks, I'll be pulling the tint off the rear window as soon as it gets warm around here.

You can damage the foil of the antenna and defroster which is on the inside of the window.

Yeah I know, I found a video on Youtube that shows how to remove it using the sun and a black plastic garbage bag on a hot day. It comes off without leaving any glue residue behind.

Well I got the window tint off the rear window yesterday. The reception is better but it still has a lot of static. Those window antennas suck.
