Squeak/Pressurized air release sound on ignition off

2008 DTS Platinum Performance, 88,888 miles

I just noticed 10 minutes ago that when I turn the key to off, right after the engine settles down to RPM 0, there is the sound of a gas being released, almost like the blow off valve on a turbo but not as loud. I had an assistant turn the key off and It sounds like it is coming from somewhere around the throttle body. I cannot pinpoint it though. On inspection with a flashlight everything looks tight and sealed .

    Any one else experience this?

Are you sure it's not just the A/C system pressure equalizing?

I had the whole HVAC system set to off. I noticed rotating ticking sound near the throttle body get louder than it has usually been today. So when I turned it off I was listening. But i definitely never heard this air escaping sound before. It is definitely noticeable. It seems they are related to me but as much as I know about engine's I have no idea how. Causation and correlation bias maybe (?)

    Hello RobsDeville,

I can understand your concern for the symptoms you have heard with your DTS. Is this something you are going to try to diagnose yourself or do you plan on working with your local Cadillac dealership? If the dealership route is the one you plan on taking and would like us to assist with anything along the way, please do not hesitate to reach out via PM with your full contact information, VIN, current mileage, and involved dealership.

    Sincerely,

    Jonathan A.

Re: Squeak/Pressurized air release sound on ignition off

Thanks everybody. I was able to play around with my 2007 DTS. It makes the same sound upon shutting off. Possibly the PCV valve. So it's probably normal. Or I got twin gremlins on my hand!

As for the cam or valve-like ticking sound on my 08 which comes and goes depending on the day, I will just wait to see what happens with that.

    Thanks again

Re: Squeak/Pressurized air release sound on ignition off

Lotsa stuff equalizes when an engine shuts down - atmospheric/manifold pressure (throttle butterfly hisssss), vacuum systems, PCV system, P/S fluid pressure (high side/low side), the mentioned HVAC compressor equalization, ....... suppose one or more pistons stop on the compression stroke - that slowly equalizes too. (On some of my Olds 455 marine engine builds the engine sounds as if it "sighs" on shutdown.)

Does the air ride suspenion make a sound once the motor is shut down? I thought that was the sound I heard.

You don't have "air ride", just rear load leveling.

No, it shouldn't make any noise, and the compressor is in the right rear wheel well, not under the hood
