    Aftermarket Stereo Head Units

    Hi again all!

I was looking at different head units for the car and I came across a few that I really liked including the Pioneer APP Radio 3. Only problem is crutchfield says it doesn't fit the car. I used their chat and they claim its because the head unit is 7" deep and the DTS/Impala/etc only have 6.5." Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket head units in these cars? According to crutchfield's "What fits my car" there isn't much that will fit in a DTS.

Thanks for any input in advance!
    -Justin

Do you guys know if the factory stereo have rca plugs or outputs to hook up subs and a n amp? I have subs and an amp but have been told that shouldn't do it as there won't be away to have just the subs amplified.

Can you hook up subs to our factory decks?

You will need to puchase a line output converter if you want to run subs with your factory head unit. I used the Audio Control LC2i and it was a simple install. Took me a little more than 2hrs after running all the power cables for the sub

App radio fits the car I had it on my 06 DTS gor a week, I didn't like the way it worked , do I changed it for a pioneer nav radio , which worked perfect , but screen was to small now I have a iPad mini in my dash , but all radios work fine with the Bose system

I am actually taking my car in tomorrow for a complete install. the head unit I am going with is
the pioneer avic 7000 nex. the installer is trying to convince me to change out all my speakers with sub in the trunk to get full potential of the head unit but I was thinking the bose system will be good enough. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't do it any of it. Those aftermarket speakers or head units won't last or sound anything nearly as good as the Bose system.

I almost did the samething, but wisen up.

....... my last car before it got totaled sounded 100% better than my bose system I have now. Much louder, much more clear sound quality.
I guess if you get cheap aftermarket stuff then I understand it wont be as good as the bose.

I agree bose is real nice Factory audio.. but you can really upgrade with METAL aftermarket speakers.. if im not mistaken bose still uses some paper like material.. have you heard a "hertz audio" setup?

Yea find a custom shop with a strong reputation (usually the more expensive ones) look at what kind of customers they have ( if u see alot of high end cars getting worked on they r likley good) n just test some diff audio companies products youll be suprised

Doesn't aftermarket sound systems lower the value of the car?

Also, I have never seen an aftermarket sound system last 10 plus years in a car.

Something usually goes wrong with the head unit, speaker, or subwoofer.

I know there are some good aftermarket ones out there. I guess its a personal preference.
