Future for DTS - will it return ?

    Hi folks,
Was just wondering what people's thoughts were as to the future of large Cadillacs.... Will they bring back the DTS? Will they come out with something all together different to satisfy that demographic of large car enthusiasts?

The DTS is dead...last one was built in 2011.
The XTS is out now... It is (supposedly) the replacement for the DTS...
A new LARGER (more expensive) Flagship model will be out in another year or two...

The urbanites and displaced urbanites favor the Escalade - but that's doomed, too. Cadillac is no longer "Cadillac" - it's a mass market vehicle mover just like Camry, Forester, and F-150. Some of the big GMC stuff simply blows away any Cadillac offering, and the dealer service is one hell of a lot cheaper. Most Cadillac dealerships feel they are still living in Phaeton/chauffeur days - and charge ludricrous labor and parts prices to continue the farce.

Re: Future for DTS - will it return ?

I do wonder where Cadillac is going. The ATS is nice looking (esp. the upcoming 2-door) but it would have made a better Pontiac. I like the new CTS, better proportioned I think than the XTS, but it is WAY overpriced. The XTS just seems to be awkwardly proportioned and certainly not what the DTS was.

Looks like Cadillac is trying to be a Mercedes or a BMW. The problem with that both Mercedes and BMW are industrial companies, not car models. They are German GM's. In the case of Mercedes, the C-class is a Chevy, the E-class is a Buick, the S-class is a Cadillac. Similar with BMW and their 3-series, 5-series, 7 series. Cadillac should stick with being a S-class or a 7-series automobile. Imagine if they concentrated their money and energy on developing a "Sedan de Ville" instead of a small Caddy and a mid-size (and now overpriced) Caddy.....

Re: Future for DTS - will it return ?

I found this info, I hope this happens....

    Cadillac LTS
LTS is believed to be the name upcoming full-size flagship sedan from Cadillac due in or around 2015.

    What
A full-size, rear-wheel-drive (with available all-wheel-drive) sedan from Cadillac to become the brand’s flagship vehicle. The vehicle would offer a sporty, agile, and dynamic driving experience while offering unparalleled luxury and refinement.

    Why
For years, Cadillac has not offered a full-size no-compromises flagship sedan that would compete with the finest offerings from Germany. Such vehicles were originally engineered to travel at high speeds on the Autobahn, while protecting their occupants from the byproducts and negative effects of high speed, such as unpleasant NVH levels.

    Pre-Release Intel
In June 2012, GM Authority reported that General Motors was in the process of acquiring the trademark for LTS and Cadillac LTS — supplying the first clues as to the possible name of the brand’s flagship vehicle that would join the compact ATS and midsize CTS sedans.

While the Cadillac XTS is currently the biggest Cadillac sedan on the market, the brand’s executives have stated that it is not the brand’s flagship vehicle, and GM Authority believes that the XTS is a stop-gap product offering that will be phased out once or shortly after the LTS comes to market.

Moreover, GM President of North America Mark Reuss was quoted as saying that General Motors has to make “very careful decisions” about vehicles such as a full-size Cadillac sedan.

    Cadillac LTS Platform
The Cadillac LTS is expected to use General Motors’ upcoming full-size rear-wheel-drive vehicle architecture dubbed Omega. It should be noted that even though General Motors hasn’t officially announced the architecture or the Cadillac LTS, sources have told GM Authority that the automaker is actively developing the platform for use in a full-size flagship Cadillac sedan.

The architecture is expected to utilize lightweight materials such as aluminum and magnesium, among others.

    Cadillac LTS Powertrain
Although not announced, it is expected that the Cadillac LTS will utilize a Cadillac-specific variant of GM’s new V8 small block range, along with an all-new hybrid system being developed by General Motors.

    Cadillac LTS Competitors
The Cadillac LTS would compete with sports-oriented full-size luxury sedans such as the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8, and Lexus LS.

    Cadillac LTS Release Date
Although neither Cadillac nor General Motors have officially confirmed the LTS or the Omega vehicle architecture, the overall timing of Cadillac’s product development cycle, along with intel from sources place the vehicle’s launch for 2015.

    Cadillac LTS Price
We expect the Cadillac LTS to carry a base price of $70,000, and offer trim levels that would carry the vehicle into the mid-$100,000 range.

Whatever it may be called the "omega" will share the same body lines as the cts and ats but on a much larger scale similarities in the head lights and taillights as well. Look for ELR class interior interior meaning leather and suede, carbon fiber and wood everywhere no vinyl. It will not have a v8 but the same powertrains as the xts meaning 4 cylinder 6 cylinder and twin turbo v6. Close your eyes and picture a larger than xts sized cts

It will need a v8 to compete with the likes of BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8, and Lexus LS. To not offer a v8 would be a bad move.

I don't think so. You'll have to get used to the XTS.

Hard for that to happen considering cadillac doesn't have a v8 anymore. Rip n*.

They don't have the northstar but they gm v8's! New Gm truck ls engines with the vvt, direct injection, displacement on demand, maybe even the 2015 corvette LT1..... I'm sure the twin turbo 3.6 would also be a option....

They don't put a VW v8 in an Audi...
Putting a Chevy LSx in a Cadillac is the same respect here.

The XTS is about the size of a Ford Taurus, I hope they come out with something comparable to the Fleetwood or DTS

It is getting tougher to find a large touring sedan. When the Town Car became a midsize it was really the end of an era. I don't know where one would go to get a large touring sedan any more, except maybe to Rolls or Bentley..
