    Seat causes back pain?

So my fiancé tells me that the passenger seat in the DTS hurts his back and that's why it's usually suggested we take the Ford Escape. Claims the Grand Marquis I used to have did the same. He says it feels like the seats dislocate his hip or something maybe from being too cushy? He constantly plays with the settings on the side and it doesn't seem to so anything to help. Any ideas on what I can put over the pass seat to help that? He claims its only the lux cars that do it to him.

There're hundreds of seat and back cushions available. All he can do is start trying some.

    Re: Seat causes back pain?

I have bad hips and I had to play with the seat and the lumbar support before I got it JUST RIGHT...
For some reason, at least for me, the proper position of the lumbar support is important and not having the bottom of the seat tilted very much... I have it pretty flat.

These have to be the most comfortable seats anywhere, once you figure out what works for you. Could it be he wants to be the driver instead of the passenger...

There's just so many. Different materials, shapes, sizes... I guess if it were me, I'd try a memory foam back cushion first (assuming back support is the problem).

Has he seen a orthopedics doctor to see what is wrong with his back. With all the adjustments the seats have, one would think you could find the right position. It might be something serious with his back.

If his back is bothering him now, what else is going to be bothering him years from now? Keep the car and trade him for a model in better condition.

I would position the seat for the best driving experience then adjust the lumbar support as jim mentioned. Or what koz says. Mike

Your just old......lol Seriously though other member is right the seats in these cars have so many different positioning combinations that it is just a matter of finding the right position for your posture. You also could look into having your cushions padding redone as they go flat over time, perhaps memory foam or extra to accommodate. The seat covers come off and actually are replaceable

Check a higher end car shop that does upholstery they may have some options for you

    Re: Seat causes back pain?

Thank you all for your ideas! Thinking about it I think the seat is tilted back quite a bit so I'll try flattening it out first and then have him play with the lumbar and see if he can find the right position, if not I'll start in with some of the seat cushions. He does have other back problems, and I've tried to get him to a Dr but I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall sometimes... so he hasn't been yet hopefully I can get him to go at some point.

    Re: Seat causes back pain?

I have driven in the 2012 Ford Escape about 430 miles round trip. I think you can't compare the Caddy's ride with Ford Escape. There's day & night difference between the luxurious & comfy ride of DTS vs. a crappy ride in the Ford Escape.. He needs to adjust the lumbar support to his liking or, may be, he wants to use driver seat instead.

If there is a problem with the seat adjustments then take it your local friendly Cadillac dealer and they can help you or your fiancé with the seat adjustments.

    Re: Seat causes back pain?

    Option 1.
Adjust the seat to the lowest possible position.
Adjust the lumbar all the way out, so that it pushed into his lumbar.
Adjust the back to a 'more straight position'.
    Option 2.
See option 1 and proceed with the incorporation of NSAID's
    Option 3.
Have sun roof modified to support a wide enough opening to incorporate an ejection seat.
    Option 4.
Incorporate a sound proof bandit barrier between drivers seat & passengers seat . . ........... (I hear nothin', honey)
    Option 5. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suggest he purchase a 'Cowboy Cadillac' aka Ford SVT Raptor =
--> seats have Bigger Better Bolsters, very supportive, fully adjustable, including lumbar, . .
    cause . . bigger Is really Better . .
